One Player Cab... Second (Player) Thoughts
« on: November 22, 2017, 01:23:37 pm »
I am building a vertical monitor cab to play vertical classics and shmups. Originally planned to do a single player cab with a usb and joystick for player 2 if needed, but am now considering adding a second player to the panel. My biggest issue though is real estate. It is a Lowboy style cab, and my control panel width is about 22". For a single player it would be grand, but am wondering if a two player panel with a four button diamond layout would be doable without being too cramped. I have seen some mention in the past they have had tight panels, but am curious if anyone had any updates or further pointers on this issue, as I would appreciate some experienced advice on the issue.

I have a 2 player vertical cab on like a 25" panel. Unless you are doing rotary, I just don't see the value personally, but game-wise. Most vertical games were not 2 player simultaneous. My kids ask for a 2 player game to play, and I generally only dig out Contra or Blades of Steel.

Is the control panel bounded by the sides of the cabinet, or does it stick out? If it sticks out then you can put two player controls on it without a problem. If it is inside the cabinet edges then it is going to be too cramped.

Remember, a lot of common arcade cabinets had panels that were only 23" wide, you are only an inch narrower than that.
