High Score Competition Rules and Scoreboard

--------------------------------
Game Name : Viewpoint (Zaxxon 3)
ROM Name  = viewpoin
--------------------------------

Settings:
Stock: 3
Bonus: Second Bonus
Bonus Rate: 50000/30000
Difficulty: Normal

Controls:
    8-way joystick, 2 buttons

The (Zaxxon 3) levels are themed with polygonized versions of fish, insects, tanks and "slinky" springs all of which must be avoided or destroyed.
The player (attack shuttle) must follow the diagonally scrolling screen, avoiding assorted enemies and mechanical contraptions to reach the end-level guardian (the Zaxxon) which must be destroyed. The main weapon is a pulse laser which can be charged up for increased damage. Only a pair of drones can be collected as power-ups. Three types of bomb are available: a fire-wall, homing missiles and a nuclear bomb. The vendor can configure the game for either simultaneous or alternate two-player games. Alternate mode also affects one-player games by introducing restart points when the craft is destroyed. (i.e., Zaxxon 3)

- Quest for the Bronze Joystick! The most successful competitor of each calendar year will possess & display the BYOAC Bronze Joystick Trophy. See this thread for details: The BYOAC Bronze Joystick.
Happy Gaming!

---

I'll kick it off with what I am sure is an unremarkable 32,800, making me just a little better than Wednesday, but not nearly good enough to catch that expert Tuesday. My goal for the next game is to actually use a bomb instead of hoarding them...

Oh my goodness, it's like someone fixed the Zaxxon gameplay! This will be fun, but only had time for one go tonight.

I'm about 9000 points ahead of you, so far I have managed to shoot one of Mr. Crab's pincers off. Took me a while to realize that the big bubbles become smaller when shot, so at least now I know I have to hit them multiple times. I can get to him with all lives intact, 3 smart bombs and a shield and still get popped by a fonking bubble.

This is exactly my problem, too.  I got two pincers off, once.  Even with all lives and smart bombs, he's just a pain.

Because of that, my highest scores actually came when i kept dying towards the end of the first level, and then would progress with one life left.  Those gears on the first stage are 500 points each.

So it's actually a disadvantage to play the game well enough to get to the 2nd boss without dying. Wait till I beat him though, that will give me at least 5000 extra points. Hah!

Finally killed the crab...or so i thought.  His final (?) form looks like this:

THIS CLOSE to my high: (But i didn't notice that i had gained two extra lives, thought it was my last.)

Still never beat him, but the extra tries bumped my score.

Played my 2nd game tonight.

Remembered to use bombs. Hella easier.

Crab got me with his rocket claw punch.

2nd time around, got his claws off & his body off. His robot brain boomerangs got me.

I don't find the bubbles challenging. Yay me.

Thanks,

Threw another few tries at it.

I don't find the bubbles challenging. Yay me.

They are not challenging, just very annoying. You can herd them around, until you overlook the small one that kills you.

His robot brain boomerangs got me.

Same here.

Now you are about 2000 points behind.

Played this one some last night.  Didn't much care for it.  Thought it was interesting that the game would move the enemy spawn points around between lives.

Yeah, at least in the 1st level where I kept dying a lot.  The enemy ships would come in on a different angle.

The easiest way to do that is checking this thread http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=152912.0. All the compo games listed alphabetically.
