Chequered Flag Front End Wheel Issue
« on: November 20, 2017, 07:34:39 am »
Afternoon all

I am setting up a twin racer for head to head and solo side by side racing.

I was hoping to use Howard's Chequered Flag FE but I have an issue.  The FE works well and I have managed to sort out the paths and various game list issues in loading the emu's and games BUT as soon as I start CF with my usb MadCatz 2 (Xbox 360) plugged in I get a runtime error and it doesn't load.

Unplugging the wheel and restarting the FE and it works fine with a keyboard.

Anyone encountered this?  Any suggestions on how to resolve?

Thanks

Sorry I should add that the wheel and pedals work just fine if I launch the emu's direct outside of the FE so I know its not a hardware/Windows issue.

Sorry for the late reply... my internet has been down.  It could just be an exception on my end and there isn't anything you can do to fix it.  I can release a more current build later this week that might fix it.

Hi Howard

That would be awesome if you can spare the time.  Really appreciate the reply.  CF is just the slick, simple FE that  I was after.  Great work mate.

Do other gamepads crash for you or is it just the wheel?

You need to plug in a gamepad, borrow one if you have to, and plug that in.  That tells me if it's an issue specific to your wheel (probably on my end) or an issue with joysticks in general (probably on your end).

Hi Howard

Are we talking a console gamepad?   I'm not sure on PC compatibility so what would you suggest?  Happy to try anything if it helps solve the issue

I have an ipac in my arcade cab, i could hook that up if that would help?

Something that shows up as a gamepad in windows.  Just a regular old usb gamepad.  Ipacs and  Bluetooth keyboards show up as keyboards.

Hi Howard

Sorry for the delay but I've not had much time for the fun things in life lately.  Not much to report other than I acquired a cheap USB gamepad and tried that.  Unlike the wheel CF starts up fine with it plugged in BUT the controller doesn't control anything.  I can;t scroll through games, change game lists or start a game - it just does nothing.

In Windows 10 Device Manager the gamepad shows up as a USB input device (not a game controller) so this may be part of the problem.  I will keep trying to sort this but wanted to give you an update.

Cheers
Clive

Yeah I've just been waiting on you.  If I do a release I wanted to get any bug fixes you might need in it.

Go ahead and download the dx4vb installer on my website if you haven't already and run it.  It tends to fix some controller related problems.  If that doesn't work I don't want you to have to keep fiddling around with controllers, I'll release something with an "on error resume next" and that will at least let the fe run on your machine even if it won't tolerate the wheel.
