Pandora 4s - monitor question
« on: November 17, 2017, 08:42:03 am »
Hi people. I have a happy fish 302 in 1 board in a MK1 cabinet. It works great but I wanted more games. I bought the pandora 4s box and the elf adapter (in case I needed it). I connected it and am getting 6 small screens instead of 1 large screen. Is my monitor not compatible with the 4s box? I do not see any dip switches on the 4s and any videos I have seen about the 4s's settings don't seem to allow changing it from vga to ega etc etc etc.

I have tried this with and without the elf adapter and I get the same problem each way.

What do I need to do to make this work? thanks!

Pandora’s box 4s supports VGA and HDMI.

I'm really new to this so... does that mean my monitor is not VGA?
Besides changing the monitor, is there anything I can do to make this work? A converter or something?

Pandora’s box 4s supports VGA and HDMI.
it supports 15Hz too but if he's running a bootleg of a bootleg he might need to download a different image of the card

You can get a video converter if your Pandora's box isnt outputting at 15Hz

Ok so I may take back what I said. According to the manual it supports standard res (CGA). But there are so many versions of this board it is confusing. What you have on your screen looks like the wrong video mode but may also be as simple as adjusting the hold on the monitor.

if I video converter would work, where can I buy one and is it a plug n play thing?

What about changing the CRT to an LCD and then just using the HDMI? Besides the LCD what else would I need?

I tried that with no change

does your pandora clone have a VGA connector at all?

you willing to open the case? see if the PCB is square or L shaped?

You can take the SD card out, and mount it, then force 15Hz

this will be interesting.

this is why we don't buy these things especially when we don't know what we are getting into.

instead of potentially bricking your "pandoras box" by farting around with the SD card and game files...just use an LCD in there.

you are already bootlegging it... i'm sure you don't want the CRT experience.

no chance to "brick it" if they use a different SD card and keep the original separate .

Using a video converter would be infinitely easier than removing a perfectly good CRT and installing an LCD instead.

start here:
http://www.jammaplus.co.uk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=77194&title=pandoras-box-4-hacking

its a ton of pages but they cover forcing 15Hz around page 40. Clone your original SD card first just to be safe, or buy the CGA converter

TMI for me but thanks anyway. I'm just a newb. Cloning sd cards and tweaking code just aren't my things.

Where can I buy the cga converter and will it be plug n play or will I have to read another 86 page post on how to make it work?  ;D

I'd love to do that because I think I could use the monitor in a rush rock alcatraz game I have.

Is there a lcd swap "kit" that you recommend?

Rush The Rock alcatraz is medium resolution (25K) if your monitor is switchable between 15k (standard) and 25k (medium) it will work. if it's a set 15k, then no.

to be quite honest, anything you can get to fit in there. measure your width and head out to walmart with a tape measure and see what TV's or computer monitors will fit. a proper "kit" will run you a grand where a TV can be had for 125 buck.

to mount it just cut a piece of 1/4" board to fit on the original monitor mounting points and drill some holes in that board to match the vesa mount on the back of your tv/monitor you choose.
