I remember back in the day my wealthy cousin had one of these.
I've loved this toy since I was a kid. Always on the look out.....never quite able to track one down.
Finally tho I did ! $80 near complete in box. Only thing missing is the charger.

I'm looking for a 6VDC, 400mA with a negative center pin charger... tried eBay. Found similar specs, but nothing about the center pin.
I've also found replacement batteries locally (Scarborough, Ontario Canada) for about $15.
None currently in stock, but I hope to pick up 2 in the next week or so.

Robot is in good shape, small crack on the dome & a small broken area on the arm that I can easily glue.
All in all very happy with this lil guy.

My son is in love with this guy....always wants to go downstairs and see the "robot."
Once he sees it ripping around the basement I'm sure its game on!
This toy rocks..it looks cool as f**k on display !

I haven't had much time to work on or play with the Omnibot.
I'm still trying to track down a charger for it.... no luck yet !
I picked up a new battery the other day in Scarborough.
I had been to the store a few times, but they were never in stock.
Anyway I finally managed to get the battery. I didn't want to hack the old barrel connector off the old one.
So I ordered some replacement ones off Ebay. I don't think I'd ever sell the Omnibot, but I still would like to keep it as original as possible.
Anyway, I got the barrel connector and added some quick connects to it (pictured).

Today I put 4 brand new AA batteries in the remote, but the remote is not working ! #$%^ !!!!!! --- This is something I won't be able to fix.
I put the new battery in the Omnibot, and I got that electrical burn smell. The LED display worked, so I know the bot works....but that smell !
When I opened the bot to take out the battery it seemed like the wires were slightly melted. I have no idea why that may be.
I'm kinda at a loss.

if that charger is to charge the shown sealed lead acid battery... 6 volt SLA batteries require 7.2 volts to charge. a 6 volt charger won't properly charge it... Are you sure that's what's spec'd?

The charger pictured is my buddies. It came with his omnibot. I don't have a charger yet.

When I got the battery from the store I had the old one with me. They guys seemed very knowledgeable. He looked over the specs and gave me that battery pictured.

I'd need to take a closer look at the details on both battery. But I'm pretty much certain the specs are the same...

Here is a side by side of the batteries (new and old).
The new battery has no additional info on the sides or back, just the information listed.

I've really gotta solve this problem and get this thing working.
I have no idea why I'd smell that electrical burn smell, or why the wire on the barrel connector could have possibly melted.
I'm going to open the remote this week and see if I can ID any issues.
There is what looks like some battery discharge where the batteries go in the remote control.
I wonder if that could/would cause an issue ? I was thinking I should try to sand it off a lil.

I had his smaller, cheaper, less functional cousin when I was a kid...

Verbot: I have no idea what happened to it.

I have no idea why I'd smell that electrical burn smell, or why the wire on the barrel connector could have possibly melted.

As SLA batteries (or any lead acid batteries) age, they develop corrosion on the lead plates.  Over time, this builds up and can create a resistive short between the plates.  The end result is higher current gets pulled from the charger for extended periods, which results in more heat in the wires and connectors.  The worse shape the battery is in, the worse this becomes.

My guess is that, given the age, the original charger is "dumb", and the previous owner left it plugged in for a long time on a very dead battery.  The burn smell might be the charger components cooking from the higher than expected current draw.

I had a Verbot also.  A few years ago I bought a non-working one off ebay with the intention of putting an arduino in it.
Never got around to it and then it fell off my workbench and the dome busted.  :'(
It went in the trash during the last great workshop cleanout.

Shoulda put a Pi in it, it would have fixed that busted dome like nothing.

i've the control guts to mine but no remote.  mine has an arduino in it at the moment.  I do know that one or two of the wires were broken loose.  the arduino and a wiimote making it a temporary rc robot is kind of fun.
did you check for bad caps?
