Changing out monitor / tv
« on: October 28, 2017, 11:57:39 am »
I have been running my MAME cabinet for about 6 years and the 27" television I was using gave out on me.
I am struggling with what to do next.

I have a line on a free 27" television that I can swap out.
I have a 27" flat screen 16:9 LCD television that I can use.

I placed the LCD in the cabinet temporarily and there are things I like, and things I don't.

LIKES:
1. I can now read all the text very clearly when I am doing work on the cabinet!  This is a HUGE PLUS!
2. The cabinet is much lighter when I have to move it around!

DISLIKES:
1. The monitor is too small for the cabinet I have built.  I am going to have to create a new bezel.

Do I keep my lighter clearer monitor, or go back to the heavier better fit?

LOL.

That's one vote.

Are people moving towards flat panel monitors with new builds or are people trying to find CRT?

I could never afford an actual arcade gaming monitor and settled for a CRT but they are getting tougher and tougher to find.

Unfortunately, someone beat me to the 27" CRT and I am on the look again.

I'm a CRT man through and through. Can't be beaten.

If you're going an RGB arcade CRT though, be warned that there can be an awful lot of work involved.

Arcade crt > tv crt > LCD

Tv crt are plentiful. People give them away for free. Maybe a good option since your already familiar with mame and using tv crt with it. LCD seems nice with shaders, but one look at an arcade monitor and you'll want to toss the LCD on a desk for work with text files where it belongs. Words can't even explain it.

I'm with you.
I am looking for a 27" television on Craigslist but the one I had my eye on was picked up by someone else.

I wish I could figure out how to fix my TV.  It's not dead but the screen is pinched on one side.
