Yeah so I'm a big time horror nut and after all these years the well seems to be running dry in regards to 80's/90's style horror films.

So this year I've already watched Cult of Chucky, which just left me confused after that ending.  I watched the Babysitter on Netflix and while it's more of a dark comedy, it's a surprisingly clever film.  I just watched all three seasons of Penny Dreadful and I have mixed feelings.  As a whole I liked it, but I thought that the reaction that everyone else had to the creature was a tad unrealistic considering he just looks like a hot-topic kid all grown up and isn't particularly horrific.  The ending was so bad that it almost negated the whole show though.  Every plot thread to every character ends in tragedy, the bad guy gets away, several things aren't resolved and the show just....ends....  It makes a person want to go cut themselves it was so depressing.

So anyway, what are you guys watching this year?  Anything worth commenting on?

Horror this year?

Get Out was a very good movie.

It was a very solid adaptation.  Gerald's Game, too.

Split was great.

I've heard good things about Get Out and Gerald's Game.  1922 is supposed to be good as well, but everyone says the pacing is off.

I'm not a huge fan of modern horror, so Annabelle Creations is out for me.

Stranger Things Season 2 is something I'm impatiently waiting on.

Tyler Perry movies are horrific alright.... horrifically terrible.  Seriously who keeps going to those things?  I wish people would stop so he'd.... go away.

I found some recommendations online but I haven't sorted through them yet, so more on that later.

Stranger Things season 1 was kind of a ripoff of It to begin with... and now that I've seen It I find it difficult to go back.

Stranger Things is more of a ripoff of E.T.  and Poltergeist if you ask me, but that's exactly why I like it.  If you are going to steal, steal from the best.

I watched the following films (I love Horror movies)

Get Out! --- Awesome movie.
Cult of Chucky --- It was lost on me... granted the only movies I have seen in this franchise is Childs Play and Childs Play 2. I think you would have to really watch all of them to get the inside jokes and references.
Babadook --- Watched this last year and I enjoyed it.
Hush --- Was okay
Death Note --- Apparently this is based on an anime series or a comic book series... not sure. Great idea but it felt rushed. Would have been a better Series.
Devils Candy --- My favorite Horror movie of 2015
Don't Breath --- Was very good
The Void ---- Eh... not a fan.
47 meters down --- I really liked it. But I could see it not being for everyone.
Annabel Creation --- Saw it in the theater. I am sick of these demon movies where you lose. No way to win. Just like the first Annabel and the conjuring movies and Insidious. ---smurfing--- jump scares. blah.
The Babysitter --- hated it.
The Witch --- Pretty old school creepy

Movies I am going to be watching soon....

Raw
Stranger Things Season 2 --- Law of sequels... this one probably isn't going to be as good.

Shut your mouth!  The original Hellraiser is a damn masterpiece.  Now the sequels......

For the record, Death Note IS a series.  It was adapted many years ago to an anime and a Japanese live-action movie.  The American Netflix version is an adaptation of the Japanese film, which wasn't very good to begin with.  Regardless, adaptations of adaptations are rarely any good and if you count the original Manga, it's a triple adaptation.  The anime, on the other hand, is quite good and I believe it has been dubbed if you are one of those people that can't stand subtitles.

Anyone seen Happy Death Day?  I felt like the trailer gave away 90% of it but the idea was intriguing.

Ooo I did that one year on my inkjet.  If you find a nice woodgrain image and print it on heavy photo paper it turns out looking exactly like the real thing.  I did that and then got gold paint from the craft store and went over the brass bits and people couldn't tell the difference.... until they held it or course.

I'm assuming you are 3d printing though.

Check out Channel Zero on SYFY. It's on season 2 but each season is a stand alone story. Pretty good for TV. HBOs Room 104 is pretty good, it's an anthology series along the lines of Outer Limits or Tales from the Darkside.

Black Mirror on Netflix is good too, another anthology series

Can confirm: Death Note was a good series.  Admittedly, it does require a certain level of suspension of disbelief around certain premises in the show, but if you can get past those then it's quite enjoyable.

Well anime in general is a bit weird... some people just don't get it.  That aside it was basically an intelligent discussion of morality in the guise of a horror thriller.  I really liked it back in the day.  Quite similar to Code Geass and it basically created a whole sub-genre of anime thrillers.

The House at the End of Time - Good movie if you are a parent

I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives In The House - Slow build but good overall

Odd Thomas - Great movie

Stonehearst Asylum - Good

Witch - Predictable

Stranger Things - Liked it.  Not as great as I expected

Lady In White - 80s nostalgia baby.

Elvira Movie Macabre / 10 Nights of Halloween - Elvira goes with Halloween like boobs go with bras.

Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th Part 1 - Wealth of information on the franchise.  Tedious to watch.  Only watch if you are a fan of Friday the 13th

Need to see:

It - Can't wait to see it.  Have to find the time.

Don't Breath

Green Room

Death Note the anime was good, really good.

The live action Japanese Death Note was... ok.

Not even going to attempt the Netflix version.

We binge watched first season a few weeks ago to prepare.
And second time around I still could only think of a sphincter when that alien opened it's mouth.

True dat.  Nothing is ever lame when you're having fun with your kids.  I watched the 1978 movie Witches Night Out with my daughter Thursday night.  If I watched it by myself it probably would be lame but I got enjoyment because I was with my daughter.

I also forgot to add House II to my list.  Great movie.

LOL!
We watched that last night also.
surprised me they were into it.
probably because it looked cuphead like.
the oldest commented on how old it must be and I could tell he found the limited colors and animation interesting.

I finished Stranger Things 2 this morning.  It has one filler episode, but this season there are 9, so whatever.  I was impressed overall.  The plot lines are far more predictable this season, but it's still enjoyable due to the addition of new characters and development of existing ones.  It's hard to do a sequel, but they succeeded.

I finished Stranger Things 2 this morning.  It has one filler episode, but this season there are 9, so whatever.  I was impressed overall.  The plot lines are far more predictable this season, but it's still enjoyable due to the addition of new characters and development of existing ones.  It's hard to do a sequel, but they succeeded.

but, madmax was only on level 2 of digdug in s2e1.
that isn't incredible.

fyi my kids are totally WTF?!?!? because i keep getting 80's nostalgic. :)

also Sean Astin is fatter than me.
he's only a yr older but it's no excuse.

Could we hold off on Stranger Things spoilers for like... 48 hours?

Thanks.
