Yo Vigo, the first cab I built was a stand up and I bought two real nice bar stools for it but they just got in the way. Now I build short cabs and have a couple of fold up chairs near by.

I want y'all to think about this, everyone sees a slim cab and say ohhhhh sweeet I could fit that in my house, maybe my wife would let it fly if I pitched that

Heck I have seen at least 10 different designs of slim cabs. No one says hey dude if it don't stick three feet from the wall you have defiled the sanctity of the arcade gods  :badmood:
They treated me like an animal and that's what I became.

Sure we did. Then we realized we sounded like Arrogant Tallywackers doing it, so we stopped. See a pattern?

What is the significant space use improvement of a folding chair over a folding barstool?

And I am not trying to come off as an arrogant tallywacker, even though I know I am sounding like one. I just think barstools are an OK solution.

Big rolling toolboxes work great in front of candy cabs.

I don't get it Vigo, would'nt that thing get caught in the crack of your butt :dunno

That seems like it would be real uncomfortable for most people. I mean if it works for you go for it, but dang

How big is your butt that an entire barstool can caught in the crack? Nevermind. Some things are best left unsaid.

I stand for the national anthem and to play classic arcade games.

It's been fun watching this hobby and watching what things people want to stay authentic to their memories. Here are just some of the things I can think of from over the years:

  • MAME vs Original Hardware
  • Controls! Concave vs Convex, WICO vs Nintendo vs X-arcade, the list goes on and on
  • Frankenpanels
  • LCD vs CRT vs TV
  • Form Factors: Skinny cabs, Bartops, micro
  • Coins vs Credit buttons vs Freeplay

I guess everyone is different. Some people play some crappy port on a JAKKS controller they picked up at Walmart for $10, or download an app and use virtual controls on their tablet, and they scratch their nostalgia itch. For me, I stand. I prefer WICO controls, MAME, non-frankenpanel control panels, that use credit buttons.

But... do you have a LCD in your skinny cab?

I have 3 full sized cabs. 1 uses a LCD, 1 uses a computer monitor and 1 uses an arcade monitor. I'm a ---stingray---.

If CCabs are your thing, more power to ya. I prefer a little more diversity in my limited space of a game room.

I have lots of stand ups as well. Also fair amount of diversity with gun games, pinballs, golf games, Neo Geo, Dynamos, etc. Sit down still gets the vote for any extended gaming.

Stand up depends on the cabinet as well though. Hs2/hs5s, most classics, Neo GEOS, etc are all terrible to stand at. I'm not incredibly tall or anything 5 11 but the marquees are right at your forehead the whole time. Something like a Midway fighting cab is a totally different and much more pleasing experience. You get the space between you and the top of the cab.

I figured you have much more.  I personally have to be choosy with my limited space. (5-6 cabs)

I hear ya, and those kind of Ccabs were designed to open the doors to extended play. Its cool to see how they are like slot machine in Asia where people will just sit at them for hours on end. The game styles prevalent on those machines work better for sitting as well.

I guess where I differ is I look at classic games, ergonomics never bothered me with a few exceptions such as parascope games. I wanted to be at the ready. I love the feeling of chucking in a quarter, squaring myself up to a cabinet, and frantically try to keep going as long as possible. I still get that vibe with a stool, but in a chair, my posture quickly slumps to couch gaming. It's just weird. Like, the reason for having a cabinet just disappears.

I prefer sitdown mirrored LCD fishtank cabs. Anyone know where I can buy a kit, preferably with a 60-in-1?

Hope y'all have a happy T-day.

I feel a deep sadness in my heart for the relaxing comfort of the sit-down cab that you will never know :dizzy:

I am truly  sorry for your loss :dunno

Yes that's it and bottom right of the picture is a new Astro (currently with 1l6b versus panel in it).
