Hi everyone,

this post might be interesting for everyone looking for controller interfaces. I have recently finished the work on a gadget that I had planed for some time now. I call it the GamepadBlock (https://blog.petrockblock.com/gamepadblock/). It is a USB interface for arcade and for original game controllers.

What is the difference to other existing USB control interfaces?

  • The main feature of the GamepadBlock is that it supports arcade controls AND other original game controllers
Besides that, the GamepadBlock
  • registers as an individual gamepad per player (and not as a single keyboard)
  • is a standard USB Human Interface Device (HID), so no drivers are needed
  • is verified to work with Windows, Mac, and Linux (including Raspberry Pi)
  • provides a virtual COM port for scripting
  • can be updated via a firmware update tool

At home we are using it for our home-built arcade controllers as well as for retro gaming with our other original SNES, Genesis, Master System, and Atari controllers. More controller types can be supported in the future. You find far more details at https://blog.petrockblock.com/gamepadblock/.

Cheers,
Florian

So it's basically a KADE miniConsole+ but your version actually exists?

Good comparison.
The GamepadBlock supports only a subset of what the KADE was promoted to support. But the micro controller still has a lot of memory left for future updates  ;)
Also, the GamepadBlock does not come in any case (yet). It has mounting holes, though. So it is prepared for assembly with whatever you like.
