High Score Competition #228: Horizon
« on: October 09, 2017, 10:02:01 am »
I finally executed an idea that I'd been considering doing for some time, not only to lower my time investment when picking the next game, but to also let fate have a hand in picking the next game:
Pick the game above or below the last game!
It was this or Hopper Robo, which was cute and Apple ][ish but not adequately entertaining.

High Score Competition Rules and Scoreboard

-------------------
Game Name: Horizon (don't call me Moon Patrol 2!)
ROM Name:  horizon
-------------------

MAME DIP Settings (see my screen grab from 115u2):
 Lives: 3
 Bonus Life: 40k & every 80k
Compare against http://www.solvalou.com/subpage/arcade_dips/H/horizon. This document says 40k & 120k, which might be equivalent. Let me know what our other MAME revs show here.

Controls:
4-way joystick (might technically be 8-way, but I did a lot better with 4-way), fire button

Moon patrol in 3 planes. Gyruss spaceship patterns. Space fun at its finest!

Last day: Sunday, October 22, 2017, midnight Pacific Time
--------------------------------------------------------------------

- Quest for the Bronze Joystick! The most successful competitor of each calendar year will possess & display the BYOAC Bronze Joystick Trophy. See this thread for details: The BYOAC Bronze Joystick.
Happy Gaming!

---

Opener: 82,500 after a few games. Man, this fun!
(Oh, if you don't get into the top 3 scores, you better take a picture right quick, because the score is no longer displayed after the GAME OVER screen, & the attract mode doesn't seem to ever show any but the top 3 scores!)

High Score Competition #160: Hopper Robo. One of my faves.

29,500

Interesting game. Too bad the music isn't as good as the original.

EDIT: 49,400

How far along we're you to be in the 80,000 range?

Last-minute entry to really shake up the standings.
The pressure is too much. I need to keep refining my game to stay ahead of all the wolves nipping at my heels. Intense competition this time around!!!

99,600

Yeah, sorry man. I really tried, but I just couldn't get into this game. No worries though.

I'd say that Jason was referring to the lack of competitors, not your score.

The scoreboard.

The final scores.

1st    jasonbar    99,600

2nd   acvieluf     49,400

acvieluf, your turn to come up with the next one.
