Open GL 4.3 in crtemudriver possible?
« on: October 06, 2017, 03:27:17 pm »
Does crt emudriver offer opengl 4.3 functionalities/compatibility?
I'm just trying to run KOF XIV on my arcade machine and getting an error that my card does not support it (Asus HD7750).
However from the official drivers it seems that AMD catalyst does support it. So just wondering if this is something the driver can/will include, or is it not possible at all?
Thank you!

Are you using the most recent package based on Catalyst 16.2.1?
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm actually using the one from  http://geedorah.com/eiusdemmodi/forum/viewtopic.php?id=65

Which I took for granted it was the last version :) "CRT Emudriver 1.2b (Catalyst 13.1) for Windows 7-64 + VMMaker + Arcade_OSD 1.4b"

I'm using Windows 7 x64

Sh*t, now I see this thread with more recent releases.

I'll give it a try, thanks!!

EDIT:

I just downloaded the latter version, but when I click setup.exe it won't show me any card listed in the compatible devices? I am running at 640x480 with asus 7750 at 15khz (flashed it with atom15)

Whats the recommended way to upgrade to a latter crt emudriver version?

I see that my card is detected by Windows 7 as chip type: AMD ATOMBIOS

Probably the driver is taking this name as not supported and therefore not listing it?

I just downloaded an original bios for Asus HD 7750, and flashed it back to its "original" state.
The card works fine on my LCD monitor, but it will still display as chip type AMD ATOMBIOS.

Does this mean that I can't install again crt emudriver?
Shall I get a new card? :(

Please specify the exact package you're trying to install (notice there are 3 different packages).

Hi Calamity,
Thanks for your time to look into this.

I used "crt_emudriver_&_tools_2.0_beta_10_16.2.1_W7.8.10-64-nieg" package, which did not detect any card. Probably that was the wrong one.

Just this morning, I quickly tried with "crt_emudriver_&_tools_2.0_beta_10_12.6_W7.8.10-64" and it actually does recognize a card.

But I guess the latter one is not the one based on latest Catalyst 16.2.1?

If 12.6 recognizes de card, then 16.2.1 should recognize it too. If it doesn't, then maybe that specific PCI ID is missing in the .inf file. Please send me your card's the PCI ID so I can check (iirc it's in device manager, properties, details, ...)

Thanks Calamity. Does it make any difference if i get this PCI ID with the original bios, or with the atom15 flashed bios?
If it does, i will flash again the card for 15khz and then check the PCI ID.

I think its sorted out.
I downloaded a wrong version (the non-CGN card), which did not detect the 7750 which is in fact a GCN card :)

Later today I will try with the GCN drivers and report back.

Just out of curiosity, how does one update the driver when a new version is out? do we need to uninstall the old one and run the setup for the new one as usual?

Thanks!!

Yes, you need to uninstall it with the same installer you used to install it.

Yes, you need to uninstall it with the same installer you used to install it.

how tested is that? it did not work for me and my 6670 - monitor detection was a real mess after uninstalling the previous crtemudriver version and installing the new one

edit:
ok after persistance and a couple of BSODs I have uninstalled the previous 12.6 drivers and installed the "crt_emudriver_&_tools_2.0_beta_10_16.2.1_W.7.8.10-64_nieg.exe " package.
2 remarks though:
- installations says it's BETA 9 and not 10
- VMMAKER reports it found CRT Emudriver 2.0 (15.8) , shouldn't that be (16.2.1) ?

I tried today with the GCN driver and it worked like a charm! I can finally play KOF XIV in my arcade machine :)Thanks Calamity for pointing me in the right direction :)

During my testing, I also realised why the Model 3 emulator was out of sync. It seems that its the monitor properties setting that is causing this issue.

When "hide modes that can't be shown in this monitor" checkbox is ticked, the model 3 emulator will work fine at 640x480.

But if this setting remains unchecked, it will display as if it was out of sync. Windows 7 64 detected my monitor as Generic monitor.

The only problem I have now, is that I enable this setting manually, but upon Windows restart, by default its disabled, so I need to set it up everytime I boot Windows 7. The settin isn't kept after every reboot, it seems to revert to a default "disabled" value.

Is this a driver issue? Has anyone been through this before?

Thanks again!!!

I was about to post the same since running KEGA FUSSION reverted to 31khz mode upon exit, I had to follow this post here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,155264.msg1627332.html#msg1627332 - both hide modes setting and disable that AMD service for good measure.
In my case at the monitor advanced settings there is a "60hz" and "30hz interlaced" options and it seems 60hz is auto-selected or something but the screen mode is 30hz interlaced one.

I also found the 16.2.1 driver to work better with Magic Engine emulator, VSYNC with OpenGL renderer does work this time and there is no screen tearing. nope for some reason screen tearing returned - maybe it got affected but the changes made above to prevent 31khz modes ok I found it this time: you need to hide the modes but keep the "screen refresh rate" at 60hz - even though it's locked to 30hz interlaced, this made VSYNC work with Magic Engine

thanks keropi!  worked perfectly!
i recall i had read it somewhere but did not figure out where. i checked a lot of forums ;)

disabling this service also allowed me to run kof xiv at full screen rather than windowed. all perfect now and ready to enjoy it during the weekend!!!! ;)
