photobucket ruined thousands of posts
« on: October 02, 2017, 12:26:42 am »
I have been scrolling through the projects thread and soo many projects presentations have been ruined by photobucket. I first came to this forum roughly 18 years ago. I got involved in other things and dropped out of the scene. After 20 ish years I got into it again and there are soo many projects that I missed and will never see because all the pictures are broken because of photobucket. This sucks really bad not only have many of the best cabs ever created no longer showing up but many other projects have been lost. There are so many projects that no longer show up and have been abandoned over the years it will be impossible to get all of the pictures back. Even some of my own pictures that I dont have any more are now broken.

Yep. Pretty much every form suffers from similar behavior from its users. They always think they know best and use a third party hosting service. They disappear and eventually so does their photos. People need to use the forums image upload options.

A good way to recover many of these "lost" photos is to plug the photobucket URL into the archive.org "Wayback Machine" search.   ;D

I'm actually surprised how many people still use photobucket.  I dumped them years ago when they spewed ---smurfy--- (and often malware filled) advertising all over my screen.

I've been using imgur for 3 or more years now.  Far better hosting.

Welcome to June of 2017 , glad you could make it!

Everyone gets told to upload their pictures to BYOAC , some do , some don't. Those who didn't can only blame themselves.
Can you change the title of this thread to "users ruined thousands of posts by not hosting images here"
« Last Edit: October 02, 2017, 11:48:20 am by Malenko »
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Same thing is going to happen.  Maybe not a money grab, but probably deletion due to inactivity after you move onto other interests and other pic hosting sites.
Please host pics here.

This.

I learned the hard way and had to modify my build thread. Just host your photos here. As an added bonus you won’t have to navigate around a dozen ads per upload.

It's mostly users not listening to the advice that they joined this site for that ruined it. Even facebook changes it's photo links occasionally.

Sorry if this is a noob question, but how does tapatalk upload photos?  I use it constantly here, although its almost entirely for high score pictures. (believe me, no one's going to be worried about my high scores in a few years, haha)

The photos are uploaded to tapatalk servers and the URL is posted to the forum inside "IMG" tags.

This game seems to reward a fairly realistic strategy. I moved in, just enough to trigger the opponents punches, avoided them, and hit him with a combo. (Head, head, body on the first guy). Was 2% away from a KO on the second opponent here.

Wow, ok thanks. I suppose I never paid attention. Last question: does it [slow anything down/cost more] for you guys?

FWIW, I understand what it DOESN'T do, and implications for the future. I'm only asking for the "quick & easy" post for high scores.

no one pays for ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- except saint, and he owns the server but pays for the pipe to it.

if tapatalk dies your pix are gone.

I don't think anyone will complain about you using tapatalk to post "throw-away" images like scores if you take the time to upload "keeper' images to BYOAC.
