Firefox Quantum browser seems FAST
« on: October 01, 2017, 12:30:45 am »
Hey folks, long time since I've been on here.  Over the past weeks I started playing a couple of my machines that have been collecting dust and now I have the itch again.  Damn it.
Anyway, I'm playing with the new beta Firefox Quantum browser.  It seems really snappy.  Anyone else using it?  I don't know if I'm just drinking the cool-aid or if it really is fast.

Never heard of it, but I'm a Firefox fan and mine is running slow, so I'll look into Quantum. Thanks!

Try running it through a Pi. That makes everything better.

I use edge.  Pretty sure it's the fastest or one of the fastest browsers atm... the Microsoft browsers generally are as they also make the OS (duh).  I keep chrome on there as a backup because edge doesn't always play embedded videos.

I'm serious:

The three fastest/best browsers are chrome, edge and opera, with them changing places from time to time.  Firefox is going downhill fast.

http://www.zdnet.com/article/whats-2017s-fastest-windows-10-web-browser/

Microsoft wrote the OS, so as I said, their browsers are typically pretty darn fast.  I mean if you knew your computer history you'd know that they were actually sued for having internet explorer so integrated into the OS that it violated monopoly laws.

Article above was written February, and is out of date.  Firefox Quantum is in beta now, will be released November, looking to be quite the speed demon.

I'm browser agnostic, and jump between several depending on requirements.  I enjoy the "competition" between them, as it only means good things for us as end users.

Yeah but  a normal person isn't going to switch between browsers very often, it's a pain with bookmark transfers and cookies, ect.  The three that I mentioned are consistently speedy.  Browser specs don't get out of date that fast btw.... when quantum is out of beta and it remains fast we'll talk.

I've been a Firefox user for as long as I can remember. But like Titch, it's been getting slower and slower. Doesn't help that my main hardware is going on 7 years old now. Will have to look into the Quantum. But question, but I simply transfer all my bookmarks over from my current install of Firefox to Quantum?

Edge is a steaming pile of crap.  Last time I used it, memory leaks made it unusable.  In pure HTML5 applications it is still barely a beta product, if that.  For simple web pages without any complex html5, js, or lots of media, it is pretty fast though.

Chrome is king, but still has its flaws.  I would try FF if it got faster though.

@SlammedNiss:
I didn't do anything to transfer all my bookmarks over to Quantum - they were automatically just there when i installed Quantum. It was seamless.

Still using the beta version and have had no issues yet.  The whole reason I tried Quantum BTW was because the latest stable Firefox version was unable to open multiple tabs on my machine.  I didn't feel like troubleshooting so I gave Quantum a whirl.

I don't get it. Why the fudge wouldn't they just freakin make that a new update to Firefox? By creating a new parallel browser, they asking people to make a choice about "swtiching" browser. If I'm gonna switch, I'm going to Chrome.
NO MORE!!
