Donkey Kong on 4 way Leaf (original Ms Pac)
« on: September 24, 2017, 11:25:30 am »
I bought a reunion Ms Pac/Galaga cabinet and put a SD Arcade board in it for some extra games like DK, Dig Dug, etc.  I have had the machine a couple of years, but I hate the game play with these micro switch garbage controllers.  I tried the Pac Pro leaf controller.  It is better but it doesn't have the original grommet feel.  I just ordered an original Ms Pac control panel that I will drill and add an original leaf fire button to the left and right of the joystick on control panel, which should get me into business for my favorites Dig Dug, Galaga, and the Pac games.  The only game I am concerned about is Donkey Kong.  I know the original Nintendo joystick is micro switch that is just superb feel and play wise.  Has anyone attempted to play DK on a grommet 4 way joystick?  Just trying to see what I am in for.  I am thinking it will be too slow with the grommet, but I don't know.  If its terrible, I will try to find an original Donkey Kong cab but they are getting harder and harder to find.  Trying to relieve the golden days as close as possible but I don't have space for more than 4 machines, so I try to combo where I can.

Chris

I always thought original Nintendo sticks were over-engineered trash and always preferred Kong on any other 4-way.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

If you really need that Nintendo stick you can buy a complete repro from Mikes Arcade. That being said it plays fine on a 4 way leaf stick. It will center naturally vs having to force the Nintendo stick to center.

Mine plays fine, but I remember the original playing smoother, but that could just be false memories if you know what I mean.

Really?  I thought the Nintendo stick was pretty slick and fluid.  Maybe the "fog of time" has taken over but I feel the stock reunion Ms Pac/Galaga stick seems to twart my playing.  Maybe I just suck more that I thought  :laugh2:

Thanks - that is encouraging, I will give it a go and see how I like it.  I hope it plays well, because it looks great on the 25" vertical CRT and having one less "dedicated" cab works better in my environment.

I have them in my Playchoice, I like them least out of any stick on the 20 games I own.
