PSP & MAME
« on: September 20, 2017, 07:05:57 pm »
Just wondered if anyone on here has any experiences with putting custom firmware on PSP's and running MAME?
I aquired a PSP 3000 the other day and would like to turn it into a portable game machine so I can play some oldies on the go.

So I installed the 6.61 Pro-C firmware but can not get any version of MAME to run on it, They all come up as corupted.
I could get FBA to work but I have no idea what rom set I am suposed to use with that??

So any pointers?

Don't bother as it's not worth it at all. The only option for PSP is crap4all based on MAME that's over 10 years old. FBA is also pretty much crap on PSP. Don't even bother with it.

NJ's emulators are a different story. CPS1PSP/CPS2PSP/MVSPSP 2.3.1 versions are pretty awesome for what they are. That's the closest you'll get for Arcade games on PSP.

Unfortunately NJ's site has been dead for a long time.

PicoDrive by notaz is pretty decent as well.

Well I managed to fix MAME and find the other emus mentioned above.
Had to fix them to like which then made me realise that PSP is really fussy about file structure!

So ive tested a few games on each system, MAME is pretty bad, A few playable games but yeah quite terrible :p

The CPS and MVS ones I have tryed so far play ok but not all working, I am assuming thats my roms as opposed to the emu though.
Do you know if there are any dat files or anything to rebuild roms for these emu's B2K24?

EDIT: Just realised there is a rom convertor in the pack! Doh LOL

99% working now :)

Yeah, once you get NJ's emus running you'll see they're a work of art. Really impressive work. The mvspsp requires you to create cache files, but it's also possible to just find entire working setups that you can DL and put on your MS  ;D

I couldnt find any sets but the cache files are easy enough to make :)

And yes they run very well especially given the demand of a few of the games!

Any recommendations for SNES/Genesis?

PicoDrive is the absolute best for Genesis/MD and it even supports Sega CD as well  ;D

For SNES I like using SNES9xTYL v0.4.2 ME because Chilly Willy is an awesome dude. You might get better performance with s9xTYLcm_mod or snes9xTYL
