aimtrak setup fo mame help (so frustrating)
« on: September 07, 2017, 10:58:01 am »
how do I get this thing to work in mame? I can get it working in other emulators, but it is as if it's not even recognized in mame as when I try to set it up nothing happens.

AIMTraK Setup Guide
Did you enable LightGun and Mouse support within the MAME.ini ?

Check out page 11 from the attached PDF

when I open the INI folder I get 1 sub folder that says "Presets" I open that and the options that I have are "gameboy", "gba" , "lcd" , "lcd-Matrix" , "raster" , "vector" , and  "vecto - mono" I have also tried the command and promt thing but it gives me a message that says " 'Mame ' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file"

Its not a folder. The file will be called mame.ini

Normally its in the same folder as the mame.exe file.

By default it will not be there, you will need to create one.

NOTE: If you do not have the mame.ini file in your MAME directory, you can tell MAME to
create the file populated with MAME default values by typing the following command in a
Command Prompt Window: mame -cc

Easiest way if using windows is to hold shift and Right click your main MAME folder and select Open Command window here, this will open command prompt and auto navigate to the MAME folder. then just enter mame -cc and press enter

If the shift right click doesn't work, just open command prompt and navigate to the mame folder, mine is something like this D:\ARCADE\Emulators\MAME

You now should have a mame.ini file there, you can right click and edit or open with note pad.

Attached a screen shot

the "hold shift" thing didn't open that option and I tried the command and promt thing you just suggested and again I got the " 'Mame ' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file"

I also do not have a mame.exe file, the file that launches mame for me is called "mame64" and beneath that is a file called "mame64.sym

tried that and this is what I got:

mame64 : the term 'mame64' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program.check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again.
At line:1 char:1
= mame 64 -cc
+ ~~~~
        +categoryInfo            : ObjectNotFond: (mame64:String) [], CommandNotFoundException
        +FullyQualifiedErrorId : ComandNotFoundException

I do however now see a file right above mame 64 that just says "mame" and it looks like a sheet of paper with a gear on it, and under fie type it says "configuration settings"

there are also 2 similar looking files that also say "configuration settings" under "File type" that are labled "Plugin"
 and "ui"

I just downloaded and installed mame64 and did what I said and it worked.

The mame file you mentioned with the gear is possibly it, right click and see if you can edit it or open it with notepad.
