Image blur using CRT Emudriver 2.0 and some modern cards...
« on: August 23, 2017, 06:53:37 pm »
Hello,

I've recently decided to upgrade my system video card from HD4550 to R5 230 (Crimson 16.2.1 non-GCN / Windows 7 x64).

CRT Emu driver/VMMaker installation process with all resolutions is ok but it seems that a filter is now applied on all interlaced resolution.
The image is blurred, with a great loss of precision.

The card is flashed with ATOM and "native" 640x480 15kHz mode with default VGA driver is ok, but once CRT Emu/AMD driver starts, the image turns blurred.
No such behaviour with the old 4550.

I tried after a complete system re-installation and on another Windows 10 system with a HD7850 (GCN drivers) and I had... the same blurred result

Is this an expected behaviour? Is there a known possibility to get rid of this horrible effect ?  ???

Thanks for reading and for any response.

Yep. Expected behaviour: modern cards apply an anti-flicker filter by default.

Some people see it as a positive but, personally, I despise it. I went back to trusty ol' XFX 4350s.

Thank for your answer.

HD4xxx have issues with interlaced mode too, related to synchronization.

So, is there a perfect solution?
Do we know if the HD4xxx interlaced sync issue is related to hardware or drivers?

If HD4xxxx sync problem has hardware source, a potential solution could HD5450 with CRT Emudrivers based on Catalyst 12.1.

Thank you, I've already fixed polarity as described in the topic.

My issue with HD4550 is a bit different.
For example, running mednafen in 480i is mostly ok, but I encounter slowdowns at some times during seconds. Only in fullscreen, never in windowed mode.

R5 230 is 100% ok on this aspect.
