Certain ROMs not working
« on: March 19, 2020, 02:34:55 pm »
I'm using the FBA Mame emulator and despite downloading ~6 different files from different sources, none seem to work for the following games:

-Marble Madness
-Missle Command
-Spy Hunter
-Birdie King (1,2 or 3)
-ExciteBike

At first I thought it was the ROMs, but now I'm wondering if it's my emulator or configuration, as all of the ROMs download sites say they've been tested and work fine.  And of course, I was super excited to play a few of those (Marble, Missle, Birdie King)!

Thoughts?

I don't know a lot about FBA - but doesn't it use older versions of MAME for some games? And if that's the case, you'd have to find very specific ROMsets. Roms for MAME are pretty specific to their versions anyway.

The ROM must be the exact version that the emulator program is looking for.

If you look at the FBA whatsnew.html file, you'll find lots of "sync romsets with MAME 0.___" comments, sometimes with widely varying MAME version numbers in a single FBA release.   :banghead:

1. Find an FBA ROMset that shows which version it is. (i.e. v0.2.97.43)

2. Find the matching version of the FBA emulator program.
