MAME Cheats
« on: December 27, 2019, 12:43:58 pm »
I wanna give MAME cheats a try, I've never used them prior.
I have MAME v 124 running on my PC (Mario Bros MAME cabinet).

I went over to : http://cheat.retrogames.com/mame_downloads.htm

There I found the following MAME cheats, nothing for my specific version of MAME.

Cheat File for MAME 0.126 (Release Date: 31th March 2009)

Cheat File for MAME 0.123 (Release Date: 5th February 2008)

Would it matter which one I try ? Or does this mean they simply wont work ?
Probably a simple thing, but I was unsure and thought I'd ask.

Thank you all --- happy new year BYOAC peeps !

Had another cheat question, the only info I found on this goes back to 2014.
Can a MAME cheat be set to automatically be used ?
For example I'm looking to auto enable cheats in situations where I want all characters unlocked.
I'd love if this could be done for default when the game loads.

The info I found was dated 2014 and it was not an option, I wonder had this changed.
However I'm using MAME v 124

Thanks

Either cheat file would work. The newer one (0.126) could have cheats for games introduced after the first (0.123) so .126 would probably be better for MAME 0.124.

I don't think there is a method to to auto-load cheats.

Depending on the game you may be able to find a MAME nvram file with all the characters unlocked, or someone may have one to share.

Some were posted in this thread: Unlocked Characters nvram (tekken 3/tag, DOA, MvsC2, etc)

Thank you very much @ dgame ,

I'll take a look @ that thread.
I had (have) no idea what NVRAM is, but I plan on looking into it.
In fact I downloaded a folder with a bunch of NVRAM files in it and placed them in my MAME directory.
Some are in individual folders, others not.........I just tossed them all in.
I'll most definitely do my homework.

I also made sure I was using the newer cheat, v 126. I'm ok with enabling a cheat prior to playing the game. I picked up a wireless touchpad to make doing so easy. But I just think it would be cool AF to boot the game with the entire rosters unlocked.

Thanks
