Glue or just screw?
« on: August 15, 2017, 04:07:34 pm »
So the last part of my cabinet is mounting the monitor frame that holds it in the cabinet. Its basically a topless 4" deep box that sits in my cabinet. I was going to glue it in, but am wondering if maybe its more common to just screw them in?

There is a photo of a similar cabinet. My control panel at the top overlaps the monitor frame and rests on it, keeping the glass in place. His looks to be screwed in place.

Just wondering what most people elect to do if they have similar scenarios in their builds... or what they would suggest in my situation. I am used to making subwoofers where you just use too much glue everywhere, and here I assume gluing makes it stronger, but also no turning back.

Keep in mind that with modern wood glues, the glue bond is actually stronger than the wood itself.  If you are certain that your assembly will never need to be removed, glue it.  If it might need to be removed at some point, just screw it.

I glue and staple. as Slippyblade says... it's basically just to hold it until the glue dries.

Thanks guys. Am tempted to glue it... may give it a little before I do.

Feels like if I do not glue it, anytime i remove or replace it wil scratch the paint etc. Not sure if itd be an issue, but definitely something ive considered.
