I don't think so... I have a LCD flat screen for my room and I use it to play Mame sometimes... rotate it and tilt it, and so far, no discoloring...

You never will.  LCD's don't rely on magnets to draw a picture like CRT's do.  In fact they will always have perfect geometry... unless you crack it!

Absolutely no problem - anyway, a LCD-monitor hasn't any magnetic parts in it, so there is nothing to degauss there anyway.
A LCD-monitor would be cool for a avantgarde-styling cabinet (saw this on some page), but absolutely looks unauthentic compared to a arcade-monitor because of its blockiness.

I thoguht about it also.... using an LCD as screen on a cab.... but just a couple of things to keep in mind....

LCD Flat screen is more expensive to start with....
I got an 19" Eizo.... VERY expensive.....

and you might want to test it first...
for things like fighting games.... with lots of animations.... it can handle the refreshing rate... its clear.... but somehow... it doesn't look as sharp.....
or the "flow" is not as good.... (don't know how to say it... but its just not as good as a monitor / tv...)

so, you might want to try before you buy.....

but of course.... using an LCD inside cabinet... no need to worry about the weight, a lot of them can tilt and rotate on the stand itself.... it does solve quite a few pblms....

good luck...

Yep, the response-time of most LCD's-screens is not high enough for fast action-games - although there are some new out that do that trick.
If you want a really good one fast enough for Quake-like action you have to spend about $1000 though for a 17" (which is appearently the same size as a 19" tube monitor) - well,I wouldn't spend that much on a cab for the monitor issue, but best is to try the LCD with the fastet MAME-game you can find to see if you would be satisfied with it.

By the way, just wondering, we call these displays "TFT" here, is this term not used in the US ???

We use the terms TFT (Thin Film Transistor) or Active Matrix here. Virtually all desktop LCD monitors use a variant of this technology, so it's may not be 'advertised' that way.
MVA panels have some of the fastes response times, but some TN+film panels have started catching up recently.
