Wii Home-brew USBLoaderGX
« on: June 25, 2017, 09:51:40 pm »
Has any one installed USBLoaderGX or a different game back up loader? I'm running 4.3U

I used letter boom to get the home brew channel up and running the the instructions here to do the rest of the process but am stuck at step 7c (7c.   Use IOS38 merged with IOS37) it just won't let me install the ISO from ether the SD card or off the net.

Most of the tutorials I've found for this are old and have broken links. I did a Rom back up so can start over if anyone can recommend a better method or tutorial.

Oh man, that's what I used to use, but when Nintnedo wiped out the cios slots I was using for the third time I never put it back in.  Not surprising that the links are all dead now.

Thanks ChadTower, Know I know not to use this method.

There seems to be like a bunch of paths to install USBLoaderGX. Can any one recommend a method and a link that still has all the working tool linked?

Well, if you can find the right packages, it should work now.  Nintendo used to wipe the cios slots whenever a first party game came out.  It would be part of the 'update' process required to play the game.  Pretty sure they aren't releasing first party Wii games anymore.  :D

I recently changed my SD card in my wii and installed homebrew browser, after getting crash errors, I changed an option in the xml and it worked.

Now USBLoader works fine.  Wii games (I own) work now.  I can also load GC isos from SD.

I remember having to load up some program called "Pimp My Wii" to clean up all the CIOS issues.  If I recall correctly, I just went ahead and installed fresh copies of all the exploitable files.

Yeah, there were a bunch of automated installers back then, but none of them were all that great.  Too much time trying to be first and not enough time trying to be good.

Thanks man. I was given a seconded wii and I'll look into it on that one.

I have a tiny 120 gd usb stick that I'm going to use for this. Out side of the two Zelda games what 25'ish games should I look for?

Mario galaxy games,
Buck hunter is fun on wii
Super Mario all stars
Well pretty much all mario games.
Donkey Kong country returns
Wii sports
There's a few decent gameshow games if you are into that.

I just redid this on my Wii and am having trouble finding 25 games worth loading.  There are some cool custom versions of Guitar Hero III, NSMB, and Mario Kart. Other than that, and maybe 10 games, it's just a ton of garbage shovelware.  I hate saying that but it's totally true.

That's just what I've got on the shelf across from me.  Lots of other good ones but you have to be willing to look.

Having played all of those I would definitely remove these from a list of must have games:

Excite Truck
Sonic and the Secret of the Rings (outside of the Sonic on Nintendo novelty it doesn't stand out among Sonic games at all)
Samba De Amigo (the control scheme gets old fast)
Lego (Insert Name of Franchise here) (you can play them on every other platform so why bother here)
Ghost Squad (I have no use for that genre)
Metal Slug Anthology (better on the Playstation)

All of the first party games, granted.  Resident Evil 4, granted.  For a whole console generation, even if we go with the list you gave, that's just not very much.

I'm glad Howard is a Nintendo Console fanboy and not a Nintendo Arcade fanboy. Those guys are the worst.

I'm not a fanboy for the millionth time.  I'm a good games fanboy.... 90% of the good games throughout gaming history just happen to be on Nintendo consoles.... many of them produced by Nintendo themselves.

It's Ok, Howard, don't take it as a negative label. I'm a proud purist and Atari fanboy when it comes to this hobby.

It is a negative label though.  Fanboy denotes you can't see the problems within the company/console.  I definitely can....you've got to admit though, aside from a constant inability to gauge supply and demand, Nintendo's screw-ups are few and far between.... at least compared to the remaining two.  Anyway I'm not saying that you'll find 500 good games on the wii, but I think it would be fairly easy to find 75-100, and that's petty good for most consoles.

Nintendo Arcade games suck btw..... the joysticks sucked, the cabs were funky..... most of the games were terrible.... ect.  Sega was the one that did arcade games right.

I used a 120GB super small flash drive. I ended up with 14 games on it and will add a few more. You can pick up a  Wii on the cheep right now and for an hr's worth of work and if your public Library has Wii games like mine does the this is the time to do it.

I'm a bit of a nintendo fanboy. The one game company that still focuses on making games fun and not just team deathmatches online. But im a collector of all video game stuff nonetheless.

There's nothing wrong with loving a brand and Nintendo has a great history. I got to play a switch a bit when I was back in the US and the new Mario kart is sweet.

I also was given an Xbox One by best friend so he, my brother, and I could play online once a week. I have not been super into current generation console gaming since the PlayStation two. My takeaway is that a lot, not all of the games are now as much, if not more about talking to friends on line as the game its self. I know Nintendo has a lot of games like this as well, but there play on your won titles still seem to be mostly of the highest quality.

I'm kind of "meh" about the current generation.  It's been a couple of years and I've only gotten a handful of games because nothing really interests me... everything is a sequel running on the same damn engine.  Even the switch...... most of what we are seeing now are re-releases and reworks of Wii U games.... which is great if you didn't have a Wii U, but for me I have Arms... and... uh... Arms as a new title to explore.  So I'm waiting until it's closer to Mario's release.  I'll probably get a switch before the holiday season though.... they are still relatively easy to get atm.

I have been putting on most things I haven't tried yet unless it's obvious shovelware or total kidware.  Odds are someday I'll spend one total night trying out 10 of them and never power the thing up again.

From what i'm seeing it doesn't matter if the wii's CD-drive is broke with this, it's all USB?

If you're using ISOs from a source other than your own physical copies then yes you can do it with a bad optical drive.

Found a wii at the salvation army store with power, video,ir bar and two motes.
$15.
the disc drive is shot(makes a sad sound when you try to load a disc then spits it out after taking only 3/4ths of it) and the remotes had corroded batteries in them but otherwise it seems to be working ok.

After seeing this thread and finding the wii I think it was meant to be.

Edit: worked good. the second time. I somehow missed a step in the video first time around.
