Game Artwork Distribution Question
« on: July 29, 2017, 10:46:27 am »
I'm working on a front-end which I plan to make available to other folks. My FE makes use of images to help identify the games and game systems. For my own use, I've downloaded and used various arcade flyers, side art, fan art, box art, etc. I wouldn't distribute fan art without permission, but I'm not clear on what the prevailing attitudes are about distributing official artwork. Most official artwork seems to be shared and hosted without a thought to the original owners. I'm not worried that Capcom's lawyers would come gunning for me, but would including official artwork in my project be uncool if I distributed it on a site like this?

I would think to protect yourself, the artwork should be a separate piece/download from the actual FE. That's how all the other ones seem to do it.

Ark_ader post incoming in 3...  2...   ...

Sorry.  This is to say that the prevailing attitudes are far from homogeneous.  Some people will find it inconvenient it wasn't all in one kit...  some people will call Capcom's lawyers.

Yotsuya gives reasonable advice I think.  But that's, just, like, my opinion, man.
