Aimtrack light guns
« on: July 25, 2017, 05:47:34 pm »
I was considering buying one, possibly 2 of these, and I was wondering if someone who owns one can answer a question.

How sensitive is the light bar sensor?  I have a piece of plexi in front of my LCD that is spray painted black on the backside. The tv remote is able to penetrate and turn the TV on and off, but would the aimtrack guns be strong enough to do the same?

I feel it would be a waste to purchase if the gun wouldn't reach the bar.  I want the screen to look as clean as possible

Spaying it with paint may block it, you might want to tape off a small rectangle when painting, then spray it in with a tint. The guns should be able to see through the tint. The tint shouldn't be to noticeable.

My bar is behind 6mm tinted perspex and that works fine.

But paint may well block it, not sure you would have to try it!

If the IR bar is not strong enough, there is always the option of hooking up some ir leds yourself. Paint, depending on the thickness, may actually let enough light through, however, i haven`t tried this.

EDIT:

looks like black plastic (plastic bags) are pretty damn permeable.
