Toilet, I don't know where you are located, but you might have a look at the TV-system choosen in the GF2-properties. In Germany & UK, for example, you have to set it to PAL, in the US & Japan to NTSC. If you got the wrong setting, you'll have a black&white picture. Just a thought.

toilet:
Thanks,

I had the format type set to NTSC-M which is what's listed for US. I'll try reseating it, it was a little jumpy now that I think back on it.

Tetsu96, I know it's a pain typing out these similar posts, but I appreciate it. Everytime another piece of information slips out.

I'm messing with this now on my main pc while I decide what to do for my next project, the console pc. I don't have the room for a cab where I live now, but I'd like to make the machine for it and use it in the living room. I'm planning on building a briefcase-type pc case mod for it, so I can carry it around to friends houses and gatherings. Anyway, I was hoping to keep it as encapsulated as possible which is why I was trying to avoid the scan converter, but I may have to go that route now.

Howard_Casto:
Your real solution, unfortunately is to get a real video card.  Geforces have great 3d acceleration but thier tv-out sucks for air.  Get an ati if yor going to be using tv out period.  It's worth the slower 3d performance as you don't have to deal with invidas stupidness.  I'm currently researching an ati hybrid card that's manufactured by gigabyte.

According to impartial sources, the top model of this series can give performance results similar to a geforce 3 and the middle end version works as well as a geforce 2.  On top of that the 2d performeance blows the geforces away (of course)  and it looks like it uses that wondeful stock ati tv-out chipset.  I'm going to buy one soon I'll let you know if they're any good.

Scan converters are pretty small.  The TView I can carry all it's stuff in one hand if need be...  Otherwise, go for a good TV out card.  Radeons are noted for great TV out quality...

I think they do custom resolutions too although good luck getting them to work with the TV out.  Actually, MAME with HW stretch and the sharp effect enabled looks pretty darn good and is probably comparable to running with the custom resolutions assuming you have the CPU power to spare...   ;)

mattv:
I'm with Howard on this one

Gforce TV out = Rubbish.

Having said that the new Gforce 4 Ti4200 cards with Tv in / out looks pretty good. Pity they cost 50 bucks more than the tv-out only model.

if you want TV out from a video card something from ATI or Matrox would be a much better choice, and because their 3d performance is (only very slightly) slower they tend to be priced pretty sharply
