I believe I still have 007, usb stick, and modded cable to flash the xbox.

It took me about 2 months of hunting to get the 1448517 "crashable" 007 game.

I also have a larger hard drive upgraded xbox (I believe it's 120gb) that I don't use anymore if that interests you.

What's a reasonable price for you?

Most under 4GB should work fine, want cheap, here is one that I have used before http://www.ebay.com/itm/131993649818 pick the black 64mb and it's .99 shipped, will take 2-3 weeks to get but that should be about the cheapest, want it faster just just stick to under 4GB and should be good.  I retested that stick right now, happen to have a few in my office desk, works without issue.

Thanks man but I have two Xbox's and everything I need to mod them except a under 4 GB USB.

Thanks for the info. I'll see if I can find an old USB stick around.

Those common Kingston usb 2.0 sticks seem to work fine.... I just soft modded an xbox with one.  Actually all of my thumb drives worked.  One of the quirks of the xbox dash is you have to plug in usb sticks before you power the xbox on.  If you plug them in while it's running they may or may not be detected.

You can use a USB drive to emulate a memory card?  Nice.  I'm still rocking my Action Replay and Mech Assault.

Yeah you've gotta buy/make an adapter, but other than that the xbox just ran everything via usb.... it was ahead of it's time.

I've got a pile of the adapters.  Use them for my Minimus boards in my TMNT cabinet.

One perk of Xbox is it doesn't have issues with USB ID.  Wish the Windows machines could work like that.

the memory cards are usb protocol they are just ridiculously overpriced 4 and 8mb usb sticks with a custom interface plug on them. same with the controllers, totally usb.

Does it have to be plugged into a controller, or can it go direct to the Xbox via USB adapter?

yeah, the controller is actually just a 3 port USB hub (2 memory card interfaces and the actual controller itself on the 3rd.)

i have a cable I cut off and wired a usb onto it. when softmodding, i just plug it into one of the other ports. I actually used a male usb and use a F-F adapter to plug the USB onto it. That way I could use the controller on my computer.

alternatively, you can do above and mod a memory unit with a usb and plug it into a controller and not hack up one of your controllers cords. The memory units are stupid and useless anyways since most people just save games to the hard drive and don't really take their saves to friends houses.

Thanks guys,

I have splinter cell black label, the USB adapter, and just found a 4GB USB 2 stick. I'm going to give it a try this weekend. Am thinking about using XBMC 4 Xbox as I liked XBMC when I did a chip mode back in the day. I only want Xbox games on this so I think coin opps would be over kill.

Install CoinOps anyway, it's silly not to.

XBMC was abandoned quite some time ago. there was an argument that took place at the XBMC site and the people were divided... the owner of the site took their ball home and shut the site down. the remaining people opened another site but couldn't keep up the updates and fixes for xbox so eventually it was spun off to kodi and just made for PC and other computer systems and abandoned xbox releases completely. Some nice people took it upon themselves to re-compile it for xbox from sourcecode releases, but eventually that stopped too. people found it such a pain in the ass to install and have all the stuff necessary to compile it for xbox that eventually that ceased too.

What possible innovations have been made to that in the last 10 years?

Myself I've just got a dash... you know, so I can run games on the thing.  I seriously hope nobody is using a console without hdmi capabilities as a media center at this point.  I do like the looks of xbmc better, but it's just window dressing at this point.

not a whole lot. some decoder improvements and adding support for more video formats and addon support was greatly improved. fundamentally it will still play most audio and video.

at this point in time it's more for novelty than anything else. a $10 raspberry pi does a far better job at video than the xbox does anyways having native HDMI support.

How is mame support on the orange pi?

My gorf is running on a 300mhz pc via DOS believe it or not.  I would like to maybe convert it to a pi and use the gpio pins to control the score lamps but I haven't even gotten along to researching it.  My guess would be driving an arcade monitor would be the hard bit.

Arcade monitor is easy.  Composite -> CGA converter.  Done.  I have one, the image looked great after some tweaking.

It might not have native HDMI but you can get 720p out of it, and to be honest it is enough.  Besides plenty of component 720p TVs going at $100.  1080p is proving to be problematic even for the PI.  There is life in the old Xbox yet.  ;)  Do you have a link for that Orange Pi?
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.
