Only problem with them is you have to be willing to put up with their hatchlings eating up your garden if you want them to become butterflies ! |

Grandma spends tons on flowers and stuff, and I always set her up a flower garden in front of the porch just for the butterflies and hummingbirds. Hours of enjoyment for her... not so much for me, but I still like watching them and if it makes her happy it makes me happy. The season is about over around here though. We used to catch them as a kid, hold them by the wings and let them go. Nobody bothered to tell us that handling the wings knocks the scales off, they can't fly right and then they die. So that garden is kind of my penance for inadvertent buttercide in my youth. |
