  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
I have a 4 player cab where the one of the LED buttons is out and I'm not super comfortable yet trying to diagnose. Sounds easy I know but I'm also just looking for someone nearby that's more experienced than I. I was also considering switching out the computer in the cab with another one and not sure how best to get it back into running/configed shape. Anyone in the Jacksonville FL area willing to be paid for their expertise? Thanks!

If its just one button out the chances are the lamps blown or the wire has fallen off the back.

Have a look at the back of the button to check the wire if thats ok get the button out and look inside to determine the lamp type and then buy a new one.

As for the PC thats a wholleee headache right there!

So no one in Jax? Or around Jax? Anywhere I can post on this forum that might help meet up with Jax experts?

I have a hyperspin pc and would like to put it in a cabinet switching out the pc that's currently in it. But have no idea how to set up the controls easily. Anyone in the area?

They both use hyperspin, it's just one is set up for Xbox controller for allythe games and the one in the cabinet is set up for the cabinet's control panel. So basically I want to put in the different pc and then set up the controls for all the emulators but not even sure where to begin.

Well, the first thing I would do is look what you already have.

The PC with the CP hooked up to it will have a interface/encoder board of some kind.

It could be a Ipac, Could be a Xin mo, could even be a hacked keyboard you will need to find out what it is.
If you aint sure take pics.

The board will then be attatched to the PC, Is it PS2 or USB connection?

Is there any other hardware? Spinners, trackballs etc?

Most controller interface hardware on a pc is plug and play it gets recognised as keyboards or mice etc.

Tbh the hardware side of things is easy as long as the stuff you have is compatible with the new PC.

Now software is again easy in theory but can be more of a pain in the ass in practice.

You need to decide what emulators you will be running and look at their specific needs.

Some emus like mame are fully customisable for controls so are easy to set up.

However some games and emus are not so easy or customisable so its best to take them into account 1st and then work your control layout around them.

If you have a Ipac for instance this is not a problem as you can program the input to whatever you want on the fly very easily.
If you are using a xin mo this is not the case and more effort will be needed.

As for hyperspin that needs to be set up last once all your individual games and emus have been set up first.

I would love to help (physically) but I am 350 miles south of you. Titchgamer is right this is either a wire or bad bulb. Try a jiggle test first and see if that fixes it. I think most of us here have built from scratch so something like this is a no brainer, but I under stand is you didn't build it, it can look scary. post some pics.

I appreciate your help and Titchgamer. No need to get short with me. I just prefer the in person experience and just wanted to see if anyone here was around Jax or Orlando or somewhere close.

The people trying to help you have been very patient with you. It has been established that nobody here is close enough or willing to do onsite troubleshooting for you. Post some pics, follow the previous suggestions, and let's move forward and fix your machine.

I am not in jacksonville but if you REALLY need a working hyperspin setup I can set one up to run directly from usb and set the controls for you too. so when you get it all you do is use joy2key to configure your joystick to my keyboard mapping and thats it ready to play mame and few other consoles from usb(or copy content on your hard drive..works either way)

email me customjoystick @ gmail.com
