I always wanted to make a Baja 1000 type racer, and it would actually work well with an Outrun format, in that it is one big track and you make many stops along the way.

I've pit-crewed the race and my brother has raced it twice. He's doing it again in 2 weeks and I'm the sat communications GPS guy (working here in the states this time).

So I'm biased about liking this format, but also very experienced in what happens during such a race, like deciding where your chase vehicles (pit crews) need to meet the driver, and what to fix and how much time to take in the pit stops.

That would be a bit too much for an arcade racer, but maybe a few decisions in the pits would be good.

I love rally racers - the bumps and dirt. And in the Baja, you will most likely be overtaken or overtake other vehicles throughout the race. You can race bikes, trucks and cars/buggies.

If the idea isn't liked here I am still just as interested in helping.

Unity has some impressive car packages on the asset store. I wouldn't start from scratch with the car. Well maybe, but I would not rely a lot on Unity's wheel colliders and some other physics for an arcade racer, or a realistic one either.

Oh and as Howard may now know from another discussion ;) their hat support sucks big time! As in it ain't there. That's a $45 asset store download if you want it ;) In fact there are some good input managers available as Unity's (you guessed it) sucks.

I've used Unity since 2010. If I can control the tendonitis and carpal tunnel pain, I'm in. I have experience porting Unity to iPhone too, or designing for iPhone, but I hate dealing with Xcode and the app store (Apple in general).

edit to add:
I swear I have one beer and it goes straight to my head. No way am I doing this! :o Besides, I see this is an older thread than I thought.

It's not that old, or at least it doesn't feel like it to me.  Shortly after this my Dr. basically told me to spend all of my free time being active, so that's what I've been doing.  Once it gets cold enough to be trapped in the house I'll pick things up.  This is still on my infamous "list" of projects I need to work on.

Haha well I'm interested but it's a pretty big project. We'll see how my RSI is by then.
