Mini and Micro Cabs
« on: June 16, 2017, 04:59:11 pm »
I'd love to build some mini/micro cabs.  I know I've seen a bunch of them come through these forums over the years but am having a hard time finding them.  I'd really love it if you guys could toss in links to mini and micro cabs that you know of.  I'll update this first post to include all the links that come through.

Thanks in advance!

Do a search on "Grayhill" since many of the micro builds used the Grayhill 04a mini joystick.

AFAIK the wiki data is intact, but saint still hasn't fixed the server configuration -- any attempt to view a wiki page results in an error.
Unfortunately it looks like archive.org never crawled the "Micro Builds" page so there's no backup.   :badmood:

I'd found the dead wiki link, very disappointing.  That's why I started the thread.  Thanks for the MK link!  I'll add it to the TOC tonight.

I've got a question.  What's the smallest/cheapest micro computer that can run windows?  Now that I've got a 3d printer, I was thinking of doing a mini Computer Space cabinet.  The game is far to limited to justify the space it takes up, but it is the first arcade game, so it would be cool to have one of a shelf somewhere.  The thing is, there aren't exactly a lot of Computer Space simulators out there... the only one I know of is windows only.

Raspberry Pi 3 supports Win 10 IoT. (Internet of Things)

Not sure if it will run any of the Computer Space simulators out there -- a quick search turned up several different versions.  :dunno

That is a bit overkill.  What is wrong with a pizero and doxbox?  You can run a nlited 98 build or just use raspian and download spacewar.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/spacewar-sdl/?source=navbar

There is a pi version where you can build a PDP'esque switch interface if you really want to be old school.  Easy to search for it.  Now my mind is thinking of a circular CRT with dials and buttons steampunk style.  :dizzy:

If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

It's not a matter of overkill.  To my knowledge the only Computer Space simulator runs on xp.  Space War isn't Computer Space.  CS is based on SW, but they aren't the same.  The primary difference is that green vector display, the gravity well and the face that the pdp-1's display was round.  I just want to print it out and assemble it.... I really don't need another software project.  :)

My still uncompleted 1/4 scale Space Invaders, complete with scale controls and 5" CRT monitor. I never quite got around to finishing it, and someone else did almost the same thing a couple of years ago (forgot the link). I announced this initially as a full size cab to mess with peoples heads so the first few years (!) of the thread are in that context. Then I thought I'd spill the beans to give myself a hurry-up. Didn't work :duckhunt

Where did you find a 5" crt?  The only ones I know of are from old portables and they aren't exactly rgb ready.

Look at the pics and you'll see it came from exactly that- a portable TV (",)
