So, who can make me a set of these....
« on: June 15, 2017, 04:56:55 pm »
After much cleaning, taping back together, sticking a colored transparency behind them, and using a piece of masking tape to diffuse the light, this is the best I could get out of my shattered coin door inserts...

Here's what CPR was selling awhile back, but seem to no longer carry them....

Now surely someone here can recreate these.  All I need is clear plastic in the right shape...  And could even do without the coin slot.

 :dunno

I have a 60 watt laser. I can cut acrylic. If you have a vector file I can cut those no problem. Even just a scale drawing would be fine. I can create the vector file.

Those Williams coin entry plates have been reproduced and available for a long time now from these regular pinball parts suppliers. A friend of mine just bought a set of the entry plates from Pinball Resource about 6 months ago.

Complete with countersunk hole for the white funnels:

http://www.actionpinball.com/parts.php?item=PDG002  (temp out of stock)

http://www.actionpinball.com/parts.php?item=PDG003

If your machine is on free play, here is a "free play" window:

http://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/16C-87FP

And if you need the plastic covers that go over the coin switches, they are reproduced too here:

Thanks for the links, Ken.  Those are outrageously expensive.  Plus if I go with clear ones, I can customize the artwork.

I'll get some measurements and scans this weekend....

Those should be really easy to cut. I have .100 (3/32) inch thick acrylic sheet laying around. If you need a different thickness I will need to stop by Menards or order it online. Either way is no big deal. I can always use more acrylic to cut or etch. I can do clear or colored or tinted.

Okay, I made a scan with a ruler, and here's my measurements...

1 7/8" / 4.8CM tall

1 21/32" / 4.2CM wide

Plastic is 3mm thick

The inner hole is 5mm from the left edge, 32mm from the right, 6mm from the top, and 6mm from the bottom.  The outer hole / lip around inner hole is 1mm around the inner hole and cut about 1mm into the plastic.

The notch starts at 37mm from the bottom right corner of the plastic, and is a 45 degree angle cut across to 42mm from the top.

It fits great. I just need to go out and pick up some clear acrylic. I only had black at 3mm thickness. I will pick some up tomorrow. The pocket around the coin hole needs to be a little deeper, but that is an easy adjustment.

I am still new to this hobby. I didn't realize that the Defender coin door I was rehabbing is also a pinball coin door.

Yeah, there are lots of cross platform parts like that with Williams.

That looks pretty good.  Nice work.

I need to pick up the clear acrylic today. Assuming it is in stock, I can ship you the seven that you need tomorrow. PM me your address.

As for selling these things, I am never opposed to making an honest buck.  If I did that we would need to discuss your royalties.

Thanks for the links, Ken.  Those are outrageously expensive.

Six bucks for a silkscreened, precision cut, and routed piece of plastic is too expensive? I think it's a bargain myself.

I am going to make inquiries with some local screen printers. These things are really easy to make. The only thing I am unsure of is the countersunk slot for the little coin funnel. I don't have a coin funnel for testing. If my measurement is off I can make more. I am cutting these out of the waste area of another job.

Probably doesn't need commercial screening for home use.  I bet some reverse printed inkjet labels would work just fine if they cost half what the others do.

Yeah. That would probably work fine. I was just going to see how much it would cost. Sometimes things are cheaper than you would think. The problem is that more often than not they are more expensive than you would think. The acrylic was 30 bucks for a 24 x 48 inch sheet. I could cut a million inserts out of one sheet.

My plan had been to print them on transparencies and shoot the back with a thin layer of white spraypaint.  We're talking about an area approximately 1 square inch, so it's going to be pretty forgiving.

Suppose another option would be using two very thin layers of plastic and sandwiching the art between.  Team up with one of those marquee printing people and I bet you'd get something very professional looking...

OTOH, pinball people are a deep pockets bunch, and $7 is a drop in the toilet tank to them.

If it turns out you want to sandwich your artwork, I can get acrylic that is half as thick. It would almost be easier. I had to laser etch the recess for the coin chute. With two pieces I could just cut one coin slot bigger than the other. The coin chute would pass through one sheet, and rest on the other.

Look what arrived last night.

Stuck one in my coin door to check the fit.  Works fine with the chutes.

Here's some goofing around with the artwork...

That red is going to be very hard to get out of a printer, I think.  I'll keep playing with it.

So, I printed up a set of just the black on a transparent sheet.  I'll hit it with red spray paint and then a back coat of white like I did on my Firepower backglass.

Stay tuned....

The plastic for this size is super cheap. A 24 x 48 inch sheet translucent color is like 50 bucks. I can cut almost 300 pieces out of that. That is less than 20 cents per piece in raw materials.
