ATI Card using VIA Chipset freezes?
« on: May 13, 2002, 08:45:05 am »
Seeing how ATI seems to be the best card to use for running DOS apps like ArcadeOS w/Dos Mame, my computer freezes when using ATI cards with VIA chipsets. Any way around this problem without having to get a new motherboard?

What ATI card, and which VIA chipset?  There are multiple varieties of these things.  I'm personally using a Rage Fury Pro card (Rage 128 chipset) with an ASUS A7V133 motherboard (VIA KT133A chipset).  I'm not running into any trouble with that configuration, although I use Linux, not DOS.

Select your chipset and look for the Drivers section.  Make sure you've dowloaded the latest VIA 4 in 1 drivers.   These may solve your problem.

My Radeon was causing GFCs in Windows XP.  I downloaded both the most recent Radeon drivers for Windows (which you'll also need if you're actually booting Windows and then reverting to the command promt GUI) and the 4-1 drivers.

I installed them concurrently, and at least one did the trick.
