Possible Original XBOX emulation on PC
« on: June 13, 2017, 05:59:26 pm »
At the E3 convention, Microsoft announced that some original XBOX games will be emulated on
all the new xbox systems : XBOX one, XBOX one S, and XBOX one X

So, all those racing games, might come to them:

There is also talk of the XBOX games being able to be played through emulation on the PC;
--------------------------------------------------
https://www.windowscentral.com/phil-spencer-wants-original-xbox-emulation-and-game-pass-pcs

When asked whether Xbox emulation could be in the cards for PC, Spencer was quick to answer in the affirmative. After explaining the difficulty of emulating the Xbox 360 because of its PowerPC architecture and the variable nature of PC specs, Spencer was more bullish about the original Xbox because of its x86 architecture. From Spencer:

Quote
The original Xbox, OG Xbox, is a little bit easier, because that was an x86 chip it was running on. Obviously when we think about UWP and the ability for games to run across console and PC, we're getting closer. I want developers to be able to build portable applications, which is why we've been focusing on UWP for games and even apps that want to run on multiple devices.

So I think we've got work to go do there, but I think it's in our future.

Well if you want to re-buy all of your xbox titles I guess that's good, otherwise it doesn't matter because third party xbox emulators are still at a standstill despite the fact that the machine ran a modified windows 2000 kernel.

Supposedly you'll be able to use original discs, at least on Xbox one. They also said the games will look better than ever on xbox one so I'm guessing better upscaling and anti-aliasing.

To be honest, there really inst much in the xbox racing library that cant be played on the pc, Dolphin or PCSX2. But I do know that the xbox versions of OR2/2K6 have more stable LAN play (System Link) than the PC version, but hopefully someday we can figure out what the issue is with the PC version...

Playing Crimson Skies sure would be fun again.  Except for a few rare arcade ports the xbox library, as a whole anyway, hasn't aged that well.

If we're talking awesome original Xbox games, don't forget Panzer Dragoon Orta. Looks amazeballs when upscaled into HD on a 360.

as far as racing games goes, it depends on the license issues.

i have an original xbox, but it would be nice to play:
---------------------
auto modellista
crazy taxi 3 (although it already exists on the pc)
driver 3
forza motorsport
hot wheels stunt track challenge
outrun 2
outrun 2006 coast to coast
project gotham racing
sega gt 2002

Just out of curiosity; negative1 - is your username a reference to the character from the IT Crowd?

nope, never watched that show.

it's just a reaction to people being Number 1, or whatever, just being different.
(although people say i make a lot of negative comments also).

No such thing as a negative comment, only appropriate responses to really stupid replies.  ;)

RalliSport Challenge and Metropolis Street Racer are the only two games I'd be interested in messing around with for the OG Xbox. We have a far superior version of OR2 already so....

I think people are still keen for the OG Xbox version of OR2 to get emulated so they can play those bonus and stages.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind checking it out since I too, have never had a chance to drive those stages in OR2. I remember being bummed out and giving Sumo Digital a hard time because they don't contain the animations from the original arcade versions lol.
