My Centepede-themed topbar arcade cabinet
« on: June 05, 2017, 07:58:58 am »

After almost 2 years here's my upright design, to play those vertical oriented games confortably and in their full glory (of course making use of old CRT tecnology!). I still have to work around a degauss circuitry fail issue. Otherwise, the hardward aspect is finished, just minor details can be still polished. As for the frontend i cannot get rid of the interlaced display mode in advmenu so may be I`d better switch to Mala (if i find time to do it).

Remarkable features:

-Central spinner control panel layout
-4 to 8 way switch thaks to a ultimark servostik
-Backlighted marquee and proper material used accordingly

Special thanks to Calamity et al. for your crucial help...

Nicely done, I like the fact that you went with a CRT. A Centipede themed bartop with no trackball though?

I know, it is just one of the few games that you cannot play properly. To be honest that's because I do not like trackball games. I chose the themed just because of  eshetic reasons. I love the Centepede bug and it well merits a tribute!  ;D. This control panel layout is perfect for arkanoid type games, which I regularly play. On the other hand, there´s some upright rotary joystick games that I like very much but that would have increased the complexity of the building process to unacceptable levels. One cannot have it all!

It's nice, but it's also really unfortunate that it does not play the game the artwork comes from. Kind of hard to get past that. Still, you did a nice job on it.

Great build but I'm gonna echo everyone else. It's bizarre that it can't play the game it was designed around. If it was me I'd be building another one in an asteroids/tempest style and transplanting the control panel over.

Of course now you've started you'lll probably want another one anyway

CRT & PC.  You're doing things right, man.

For the degauss, if you can't figure out why the circuitry is failing, you could manually degauss it with either a degaussing wand, or what I do is use a power drill.  Seriously. Just hold your power drill next to the screen, not touching, and turn it on and off a few times. The electromagnetic field the power drill creates will degauss your monitor for you.
After you've done it once, you shouldn't need to do it again for a while.
