Mame Weird Sound Issue

Hi guys. Was wondering if anyone has come across this problem before. Mame was working fine for a while then after I was playing around with video settings and testing things out all of a sudden no sound will work in fullscreen mode. It now only works if I run it in a window. It works fine in both fullscreen and windowed if I have the computer speakers selected as default in windows but no longer works in fullscreen when I have hdmi selected as default sound device.  Ive searched around but cant find anything on this particular issue. Ive also tried deleting the whole mame setup and unzipping fresh from the original download but its just the same.
Any help would be greatly appreciated guys, Cheers.
