I'm fairly apprehensive about this film. There are just so many ways in which they could screw it up.

That being said, it does appear to be getting good reviews, so who knows.

I highly recommend watching all 3 prequels before seeing the film.  So much is explained and you probably won't spend the first half of the movie wondering what the hell is going on.  I didn't hear about them until after I saw it last night, and watching them helped fill in a lot of what is missing.

The Bladerunner movies are supposed to be dreamlike and make you question what's actually real.  I don't want to watch a bunch of damn cartoons to "explain" it.

I went to see it last week. Thought it was rather good.

Needed about 30 minutes of long shots and thoughtful gazes excised from it, but we really enjoyed it.

I did like that there was some actual detective work in this one, though that kind of went to ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- halfway through.

I think Gosling was the twin brother and they lied to him about the boy dying

Enjoyed the movie because I like dystopian future design, but it was an awfully slow burn.  I would have checked the time on my phone a few times if I could have done so without it lighting up.
Some of the over explaining annoyed me.  At one point there was a flashback to a voice from only a few minutes earlier.
I'm curious as to if there were originally scenes in between that were cut, or if they just wanted to make sure nobody got lost.  :lol

Loved the anime.

Yeah, I agree with all of that.

I'd like to feel clever for figuring it out as soon as she said, "an artist puts themselves in their work" and reacted so strongly when she scanned Gosling, but the movie kind of clobbered you over the head with it very soon after

I liked it way better than Arrival, though.  The appeal of that one is completely lost on me.

One is anime, but the other two use the same actors, sets, and feel of the film and are not animated.  It isn't explaining so much as setting the scene.  If these clips didn't start with the director saying he asked those other directors to do them, you would think they were snippets from the movie that got cut out by some idiot producer randomly taking out scenes to make a budget goal. No doubt these will be on the extras menu of the Blu Ray when it comes out

The one clip sets up the reason for why a blade runner would go to a worm farm in the middle of nowhere in the opening scenes and even gives the farmer replicant some small amount of character depth.  Without having seen it before the movie, that entire first scene was completely emotionless and merely a setup for finding the buried box.

I haven't seen the anime yet, but I went to see the actual film yesterday, and I'm relieved to say that my fears were completely unfounded. It was excellent. Maybe not quite as good as the original but not far off, and a worthy sequel.

My one complaint was the lack of an interval. Once you take into account the pre-film ads and trailers, the viewing time was over three hours. My bladder struggles with that sort of timescale these days.

That's an interesting idea but what would their motivation be to lie to him?

Another possibility is that they were simply mistaken about the boy dying. That works slightly better IMHO.
