I'm on the razors edge between chuff and naff.  Got a line on a guy with a mess of oldies, has a Monaco GP tucked into the lot but isn't wanting to split up the lot.  Lot isn't interesting enough to justify for just the Monaco and I'm trying to convince him to split it off.  If I can walk with a MGP I'm chuffed to the xtreme.  If I can't I'm only out so whiny texts but still naffed at the missed opportunity.

Chuff

verb

1. (transitive; usually passive) ( Brit, slang) to please or delight: he was chuffed by his pay rise

It's its own thing now.
More of a noun describing a state of satisfaction as if it is an object to be acquired/found or taken away/lost.

There's road work going on in front of my office, with a hydrovac running constantly. For the last couple weeks, and probably a few months going forward, I get to hear this sound for hours every day.

Short , pleasant version of the last several months:

Van vanished one fine morning.  It Got repo'd,  as I ran out of money to make payments.   I was fortunate to work out a deal with them to get it back... but it tacked on another 600$ to what I owed.

Just a few months ago,  I was sleeping in my minivan.   Couldnt afford a place to live.  Middle of winter, NY, ... very cold.

Moved into a place I can just barely afford,  and its a few feet from a busy intersection.   Loud traffic,  Pounding Subwoofers from cars sitting at the lights, that shake the building... at all hours of the day and night.

At least twice a month.. a small resturaunt across the street has a DJ play music...  and they must have a +10,000 watt sound system.   Even with a good 50 feet or so away... each subwoofer hit is like an earthquake.  Music still audible, even after insulating the hell out of all window areas.  This goes like from 10pm  to  2 / 3am...

Place I work at...  someone must have a dog with flee's..   as they are now feasting on me daily... itching badly...

Vans blinkers are often clicking the wrong signal than what I choose.   Electrical issue.  Probably cant afford to repair before this Aug... when it wont pass inspection,  due to another electrical error that makes the ABS go on/off randomly  (now a solid brake error showing).

Had to move my belongings like 4 times this year so far.

Jaw is too far forward... needs operation.   Its very uncomfortable to have to pull the jaw inwards.. and hold it there... just to be able to close my mouth.

Dental Partial that forms my 4 front fake teeth..  doesnt fit.   I bite down on metal all day/night long... and the plastic has ground down to the metal plate from teeth digging into it.  It will probably break completely in a year...  if Im lucky...

Glasses need replacing.  All scratched up.  Frame suddenly broke at the worse possible time... and was not repairable.  I was lucky... I found reading glasses,  that used the same frame parts... and after some time.. was able to strip the scratched coating off the lenses.  But there is some distortion on the lenses.. and this causes me fatigue / headaches at times.

Cant eat / drink   eggs, wheat, dairy, soy.    Have to spend several hours prepping and cookinh dishes from scratch.   Expensive food costs.  Lot of time spent cooking, and cleaning ... instead of relaxing,  and or creating.

Finally got healthcare started up...  then the state suddenly canceled my policy due to a mess up with my PO box.  Got started again... and hospital seemed to have been claiming that they didnt get my two money order payments... and,  they only covered half the price of my med... which was shocking...

Health is random.  Some days Im ok.  Others I have bloating, constipation, joint pains, weak yellowed teeth, muscle / body / feet  pains,  migraines.   Sometimes,  one or the other...  sometimes a combination of several or all.

Any interpersonal stresses,  such as an argument... causes me a ptsd reaction now  (due to former abuses + health degradation).   Will get a near instant migrane,  and my whole body will feel like it was just dipped into a deep-fryer.   Burning fire sensation... inside and out.   Then I get so fatigued from it... that I usually have to crash-nap / sleep it off.

Some nights Im so exhausted, that I crash in my work chair...  and or can not find the energy to cook dinner + lunch  for the next few days.  So I end up eating ham slices,  and multivitams,  for my lunch and dinner.

 Debt collectors calling often...

I do not hate life anymore  (thank the heavens I learned meditation,  and found great help though it, and enlightening material ... )
...but I just cant seem to do more than float, or sink...   and its getting harder to keep up the fight,  as age climbs...

The hardest part for me now...  is not being able to be creative.   No time / energy..  and or at times... resources..   to be able to do great things...
And so depression eventually finds its way to me...

Edit:  Chuff read backwards.. pretty much sums it up.

What is it you create when you do have time?

If you look around,  you will see some of my game design concept artworks.    Most of my time was dedicated to this.

I have stacks of design works,  going back since I was a little kid...  but my art skills were far lacking.   Ive been working
to advance these skills,  and have produced some recent pictures,  that far better illustrate what Id like to get made.

I also want to try my hand at oil and water painting.   Ive done the bob ross stuff when I was 20.. but that
method is too generic and limited.  Its time to learn the real deal.     Ive also used acrylics,  and recently helped
to restore a pinball playfield... but overall acrylics do not blend well,  and lack translucency and vibrance of oils.

I Want to build a 100%  mechanical ice cold beer game variation.  Possibly using a pinball for more challenge...
Maybe a large scale  "two player only"   version.. with a bowling ball...

Want to try to redesign a pinball machine...

Have ideas to try for personal transport,  like a bionic animal-gate converter.

Still want to build something to play the classics...

Would love to get the right people together,  to create a better controller, for digital art input.

Have many other mechanical based game/toy  ideas,  as well as game experiments Id like to try.

Want to make some form of force-feedback simulator.   Either something somewhat typical... or maybe:

 - A fully cable driven harness,  that allows you to be lifted, slid, moved... in all directions.

 - A special game controller for Target Earth..  where you are attached to a counter-weighted arm/seat...  that mimics the Mecha's floating jump gate...
thus adding a really cool feel to the game.   Force feedback (motors and or bass shakers) to feel the explosions,
and separate feedback for your guns firing (solenoids).

 - A special controller for the game  "Kick".   A unicycle like setup,  with bike pedals / bike wheel   -  to deliver the analog speed and direction.
With a bar-suspended, air filled ball, that you actually have to kick,  to active the kick button function.   Maybe add the addition of a handlebar set,  for
traditional bike games  (or even something like Prop-Cycle.  Paperboy converter?.. etc)

 - Still have a great Multi-Spinner design Id like to try to put together.
 - As well as some other special arcade controllers / converters.

 - And I have make a Starwars yoke... considering that somehow,  mine arcade yoke was either lost in the shuffles.. or outright stolen...
like my speakers, my ultimark encoder,  my real high carbon steel chinese broadsword.. and a bunch more...   =.(

 - Want to experiment with Blacklight UV paintings...

So much I want to do...

Power was out all day today.  AGAIN.  I think that's 3 or 4 times this year.  I'm going to have to install a transfer switch or something as I'm too old/fat/ect to keep running cords all over the place just for the power to come back on when I finally get everything setup right.

My F250 decided not to start after we arrived to watch fireworks last night. Totally embarrassed because I also drove another family. Truck cranks but won't start. Checked all the fuses, connections under the hood. no luck. Cracked a cold one and tried to enjoy the show.  Then begged for rides, LOL.

it's still up there...gotta try recovery after work today.

I have one of those (totally worth it.)  Is it throwing any codes at all?  Seems like anything which would prevent starting would be showing something on the dash.  Glow plugs?  Glow plug controller?  Fuel filter?

Hope you can get it running to get it home.  Mine is 4 tons dry, so anything other than an equipment hauler is a non-starter for trailering it.

My dad borrowed my truck yesterday so I took his car. I got two miles down the road and the oil filter came completely off. I pulled over immediately. I called a buddy and he went to the auto parts store and picked up oil and a filter. Then he stopped at my house and picked up my floor jack and jack stands. The road looks like I was playing live action Spy Hunter. It was annoying, but I was only sidelined for a half hour. It turns out my dad just got an oil change last week. He is paying them a visit today.

That is a story I hear over and over and over and over again.  Oil change done poorly resulting in failure.  My aunt seized her engine once because the idiots didn't put any oil in after they drained it.

I'm gonna check the Glow plug control Module...

Jim I'll try blowing on it and let you know how it works out.

It's summer... Glow plugs don't mean much right now. Heat of compression from cranking over many times is more than enough to get a diesel started in the summer months. You have a fuel delivery problem.

Yes. I'm a certified diesel technician.

It's summer... Glow plugs don't mean much right now. Heat of compression from cranking over many times is more than enough to get a diesel started in the summer months. You have a fuel delivery problem.

Yes. I'm a certified diesel technician.

It depends on the part of the country you live in, but generally I agree.  However, I currently have 4 out at the moment (already have a full set of replacements on hand) and cold starts on cooler mornings or late at night, is rough.  If my batteries were weaker, I don't think it would be starting.  There are also plenty of sensors on these vehicles, and they still think it's necessary to light up the glow plugs on a cold start, even when its warmer outside.

But you are right.  If the vehicle was driven to somewhere that was any distance away, there should be enough residual heat in the block to assist starting for the ride home.  The injectors, glow plugs, GP controller and fuel pump should throw codes, and the chance that those are bad with no engine light on the dash is pretty low, so what's left?  Hydrolocked? Cracked injector head allowing exhaust gas into the fuel line?

Knave:  When you turn on the key, do you hear the normal fuel pump noise while the lines pressurize?  Have you recently drained the water separator?  From what I have read, the seals on the drain can go bad, and allow air into the line.  Could also be the fuel filter, or the fuel shut-off.

I would agree with this, simply because there isn't much else on a diesel that can cause it to not fire, lol.  But I wonder what fuel delivery issues aren't going to throw a code.  I suppose it depends on the year of the truck.. older it is the less likely it will catch a problem like no power to injectors or a failed fuel pump.  I'm no expert though, so for all I know you could have something as simple as a cracked fuel line causing loss of prime and no sensor to determine if you have fuel pressure or not...

I had a problem on a gas engine (86 nissan) recently that I never would have guessed - wouldn't start or even fire a little, right after I just drove it.  Drove to get some hardwood at a cabinet shop, loaded the truck and it wouldn't start.  Acted just like fuel delivery issue.  Thing is, it happened when fuel was low, and after I ran and got gas, it fired up, so I thought it was just a bad gas gauge and I ran out.  Then it happened again after filling it.  Was running one minute, then after gassing up it wouldn't start.  The cause turned out to be the coolant temp sensor stuck reading -40*.  It was choking the hell out of the a/f mixture, which was fine when engine was cold, but not so much after it warmed up.. Problem solved, right?  Then a few weeks later, my son drove to a store, and when he came out, it wouldn't start.  Fuel gauge was low again, but not empty, so we figured for sure this time it was fuel.  Gassed it up and still nothing.  Turned out this time it was the coil - it had cracked on the bottom, arc'd, and took out the distributor and electronic ignition.  What a pain.  In both cases I would have sworn it was fuel delivery related.

Unfortunately, there's a lot which can go wrong with fuel delivery on some of these vehicles.  On mine, the injectors are driven by oil, so if any part of that system fails, the injectors don't work.  While the injectors themselves are part of the fuel delivery system, the systems which make them work are more loosely related.  A plugged oil filter could even stop the flow of fuel, but I would still expect to see some kind of code.

Randy... ::)

I find it mildly hysterical you're trying to attempt to troubleshoot a vehicle problem without the vehicle in front of you.

"Engine cranks, but won't start - no CEL" has probably one of the biggest troubleshooting trees of any vehicle problem. You gotta follow the troubleshooting steps. If you skip a step, you'll waste time for nothing. My previous years of experience, lean my thought more towards a fuel delivery issue and not an electrical issue, since it cranks over fine (one of the first steps of almost any troubleshooting tree is to check the battery connections). But, to reiterate, follow the proper troubleshooting steps. If you can't, take it to a technician who is capable.

And Randy, don't forget about the fuel return line... if that's obstructed, engine no runny. Point is, there are many components that could fail in a fuel system. Don't be just a parts changer. Find the problem, fix the problem. Don't shotgun ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.

I agree with everything you have said regarding a problem like this, but there are some common issues with specific vehicles, and sometimes you can get lucky by checking those first. There are vast portions of the internet devoted to this type of thing, and they have helped me out on numerous occasions.  Granted, this probably isn't the best place to find that information, but I've done my share of reading about and working on issues with these vehicles, because I own one.  Just trying to help someone in need.

Howard, you warned against using isopropyl alcohol on rubber (of which there are many compositions), in direct response to my recommendation to do so in the context of cleaning a membrane pad for a remote. You didn't offer an alternative and now state that you used alcohol to clean rubber parts.  If it's bad for the rubber, why do rubber manufacturers indicate that it has little effect on the type of rubber in question, and more curiously, why did you use it?  Did your boss know? :)

Well I managed to get a pre-order in for a Snes classic, and nothing good ever happens to me so I was waiting for the other shoe to drop.  The cat is missing.  At first I thought he just ran off, but I've been looking all day.  He's a house cat.... rarely goes outside, so I'm afraid something happened to him.

Well the cat comes knocking on the door at 10:00pm dirty as hell looking up at me like nothing happened.  Poor guy drank water for about 10 min... he was definitely stuck somewhere.  You've got to understand.... this cat might be in great health but it's 17 years old.... I figured it had ran off to die.  I had an old yeller moment there for a second.  Man tears.... super chuffed.

I had ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- news today.  A good mate from school topped himself.  His ---smurfette--- of a wife left him and took the kids and made him homeless.

He got a room at a 5 star hotel in town and hung himself.

He never let on.  Had a good job, and was a really sweet guy.  Salt of the earth.

I would have looked after him. What a pisser.

2017 is turning out to be another crap year.
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

People don't get it.  Money means absolutely nothing... you think it does until you lose something or someone that's actually important.  Sweet guys are typically sensitive guys.... it's the jerks that don't let anything phase them.

My condolences.

You mean... its the Jerks that cause most normal people to go insane.   Got it.

There are many kinds of strength.   Having the strength to be fair, kind, and compassionate... when it is the most challenging,  is something that many are incapable of.

Being rude,  mean spirited,  impatient, unapologetic, seeking revenge,  unable to forgive / let go...   are all signs of internal weakness.   Flawed characters.

Im sorry to hear of your loss... and a loss of a good man.
It can be very difficult to deal with such heavy matters of the Heart.

For me,  was born into abuse.   Much like any physical fighter...  when one gets hit the first time,  its far harder to deal with than after your body and mind have adapted and developed... from years of training and repeated trauma.    The heart is much the same.   The first hurt,  such as a breakup... can be the most devastating.   But often after like the  +3rd  time... there is often far less pain,  less damage,  and less recovery time.

Key inner knowledge helps greatly... such as found in spiritual and or self-help channels  (IE:  Buddhist principle:  that mankinds greatest suffering comes from too much attachment (and expectation).    You can enjoy the wonderful gifts of the world...  but if you are too invested in them...  you set yourself up for greater pain and suffering,  as a result of not having / losing them.    Learning to be Content,   with oneself,  ones life, ones job...etc...  can be difficult initially...  but over time... it gets easier to think and feel these ways... and life gets a little easier,  and you end up enjoying and appreciating life a lot more.

Its is true,  that money does not bring happiness.   Many people have great wealth,  and many of them are often still very unhappy internally.

Taking such a hit,  of loss of family,  love life,  and a place to live all at once... is something Id never wish upon anyone.
Its hard enough to deal with being homeless... especially as a man.   For society in general,  seems to place far less value and aid / help  to men.   It is something we really should be striving to repair.    So many Feminist Cultists,  will try to paint a picture that western woman have it worse than men...  when in fact,  woman pretty much always have special privileges... and get more help and benefits out of life.   Of course,  part of this is largely mans fault... for not standing together as Brothers.   Instead,  often betraying justice at the bat of some pretty eyes...  or some (poorly acted) crocodile tears.

It does not help... that the people whom could change many of the unfair laws,  do not understand the issues... because they live in a completely different world.    They are not going Homeless,  let alone having 90% of their wealth and quality of life... dissolved from a Psychopathic Vampire.   They also stand to lose the most,  from far too aggressive child-support and other such cash cows...  should they altered to reasonable / fair  levels.

Hopefully the great mans soul will re-incarnate into a future where things are much better...  rather than much worse.

Please do ones best,  to spread positivity, compassion, love, and support.   To be just,  patient,  open minded,  and inspiring.   One kind talk,  even just a few choice words...  can change a persons entire life for the better...  and the result could effect millions of others,  in a successive chain of kindness,  compassion,  and inspiration...  leading to a far better and brighter future...  as well as just a far better quality of life in the Present (the Gift).

 Best Regards to all

Fries were amazing, chicken sandwich was decent, Eskimo Joes was still 40% more expensive than it should be and thus Stillwater is unchanged in 15 years.  We jiggled a gate and got into the OSU football stadium which looks great.  The local Stilly Wheat was very nice.

This is going to change your life, Harvey:

I just want to know if he got the shits this weekend.

I ate some kind of dried chili mango thing on the way to OKC and had to stop four times to ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.  That was horrible, so I've been eating the rest in smaller portions.  Somewhere along the way, I paid $7 and chugged a small bottle of pepto, so it's been black bricks all weekend.

Thanks for asking.

There are moments where I'm conflicted about everyone having an internet enabled camcorder in their pockets.  I think we're all allowed to have an occasional bad moment that doesn't need to be uploaded onto YouTube.  On the other hand, an 'armed' society is a politer one I suppose.

This afternoon, I came up on several people standing around in 102 degrees filming a clearly unwell and agitated man in a hospital gown having a standoff with a city bus in the middle of a busy intersection.  The bus driver has about had it and has come mere inches away from nailing this person multiple times trying to get around him.  This has been going on for several minutes.  "Someone should call 911" many of them mentioned.

Well, that someone was me, and one of the filmers announces "hey, he's calling 911" and our trouble maker immediately clears the street.  The police arrive a couple minutes later and I bounce.  Life goes on.

Folks, please.  Don't be a chicken ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- desperate to get internet famous.  Some day it might be you needing the help.

I agree with this 100%.  There is a person on our small street having a serious breakdown of some sort.  Lots of emotional episodes outdoors, incoherent ranting at any hour, sometimes they are aggressive towards bypassers.  To my knowledge nobody yet has tried to take advantage of this for youtube hits.  That might be because the average age on our street is probably over 40 and the only two teenagers (my kids) don't have cell phones.  I'd like to think that if some --cream-filled twinkie-- were out there obviously livestreaming this person a neighbor would smack the phone from their hand.

Keep us informed!

Update on my Truck.

It took the techs a few days to look into the issue, Funny how diagnostics work, started at $350 jumped to $1500 and settled on $3800. Issue was traced to a bad sensor in the high pressure oil pump. So they replaced the sensor and the pump itself just to be sure. $$$ sucks but as long as its fixed right...Well no.

I returned home two weeks later (thus the delay) and the truck is not right. It starts rough, as in barely starts. once it does it seems to run ok. so I drive it for a few days, leave a message at the shop, few more days, issue gets worse and take it back in. For whatever reason or some how the batteries are shot. They are only 2 years old.

Top all this off and the night before my appointment at the dealership I get a flat tire. Truck is cursed I tell you. I was so frustrated I took the day off and had it towed in.

Silver lining...They had it for 3 days, Diagnostics were free, fixed the tire under warranty, replaced the batteries, also under warranty, And they are going to honor a coupon that I had that my wife didn't know about when she picked it up that will save me $150

So still $3650 but I got a fixed tire and a set of two new batteries ($120 each)

Sigh. but...a couple of injectors tested rough while they were looking. It's fine for now but eventually I'll have to do all 8 injectors. (~$3500)

That's what I get for buying a used 7 year old truck...although I priced out a new one with all my options and it was over $60K

Blue book looks to be about $13-14k, I paid under 20 4 years ago. I remember how much the depreciation hurt when I bought my jeep new.

Anyway thanks for listening. I have to get back to work and make up that $$$

In the end I like my truck so its worth it...well almost

Depreciation really only matters when you sell.  If you're not going to sell it's not that big of a deal.  It's not like you're going to take out a car equity loan.

Lol.  Yeah, one would hope. I told a car salesman back when I was 22 that there was no way I'd lease a vehicle, as I needed to build equity.

"What are you gonna do, take out a second loan on your car?"

Well, yes, maybe in case of emergency considering as I have zero other assets.

I have never owned a diesel, but those numbers sound out of whack.

How could they possibly rack up 3800 dollars in diagnostics?

Are diesel injectors really that expensive?

I replaced the fuel injectors in my dad's 1992 Corvette. It was 300 some dollars for a complete set from Summit. They were easy to install with phone support from my friend who is a mechanic. Is the cost mostly labor?

When we bought my wife a brand new car in 2005 my family gave me some crap about that.  "Dude, you just drove it off the lot, it's already worth 20% less."  Why should I care, then or now?  The thing is still in our driveway being used occasionally and is probably worth under a grand now.  Next to it is the 2017 Civic with which we replaced that car.  We'll probably still be driving that Civic in 2027.

If you buy a car that is slightly used the previous owner takes the giant immediate depreciation hit. Cars can go 200,000 miles with hardly a hiccup now. Buy a car with 50,000 miles or less on it and you will have a like new car for way less money.

That's more important for some cars than others.  A lower range car, like an Elantra or Civic, doesn't have nearly the depreciation hit of a Lexus or Audi.  And those first couple of years of perfect operation do have value.

That said, I did buy my Tacoma with 14k on it, because trucks have a much bigger depreciation than a Civic.

That depends on the car, man.  I bought my car new because 2-3 years old they were selling for $1,500 less.  For that kind of hit, I'll take that factory warranty and having the luxury of drilling farts into virgin upholstery kthx.

Thanks for the update.  I was wondering how you made out.  Sorry to hear about the cost.  Sounds like a lot of labor was involved .

If your batteries were weak, you probably dodged a bullet by getting them replaced when you did.  Lots of stories out there about fried computers due to weak batteries (more $$$).

Also, if you aren't already, only use Ford oil filters.  I've heard stories out there about the 3rd party filters being made differently to dodge patents, leaving the oil system and injectors open to problems.  Some have even broken down due to the intense heat, and the pieces found their way into the system and caused all kinds of issues for some.

Glad to hear you have your "baby" back.

Buy a car with 50,000 miles or less on it and you will have a like new car for way less money.

Can't say I disagree with this.  I've owned cars for 34 years and haven't had, nor wanted, a new one yet :)

Thanks for the comments guys.

As for the cost vs. diagnostics. It is cheap for them to plug into it and run some tests. But once they need to dig into the engine the cost goes up. Not specifically because it's diesel rather because the part they need to get to physically check is under a whole lot of other parts and then they need to put it all back together again in reverse order. That is why I had them just replace the whole oil pump as well as the sensor. They got it open, better to put in a $100 part now to be safe rather to trust my 12 year old oil pump and have to pay to have them take it apart all over again.

Don't get me wrong, the dealership is expensive, probably about 20% more than I could get at a local diesel shop. However I looked around and tried 3 shops to do some basic stuff to the truck when I first got it and only the 3rd one was worth taking my truck to. Sadly that one is 20 minutes away. The dealership is 5 min. Also because I bought a car from them in 2014 they try hard to keep me happy. Free coffee, wifi, rides to and from work, free rental when we had a recall issue. (no hassle tire repair and battery replacement.)

With my Jeep I also had trouble with random local techs forgetting things...brake fluid cap, lube points on my 4x4 system, and then there's the upsell.  While the dealership does try to sell me stuff I never feel like they want me to do things that are not truly necessary. So I took that car to the dealership too after a few years. Not all dealerships are good but sometimes you get what you pay for.

If I had a good, solid local diesel mechanic I would take it there in a heartbeat. My last truck I owned for 22 years it had 180000 miles on it and I did about a quarter of the work on it myself, the rest went to my local shop sadly the guy retired and the new guys are not the same.

Randy: you are not kidding. I read many horror stories about cheap after market oil filters. First thing I did when I was replacing all the fluids was put in an OEM oil filter.

After paying off the loan on my Tundra, I've used it twice to pull out secured loans of sizable amounts.

Ouch. This is the exact reason why I don't let anyone besides myself work on my vehicles. Was a mechanic for several years... I had very few co-workers that I thought highly of... It's a crap shoot going to the shop. And 90% of the time they throw the shop monkey on your job...

Here's my take on the new vs used car thing:

I have a dealer's license and can buy 1 year old lease returns with ~10k miles for great wholesale prices... sometimes.  When it works out, it is great - you already know the car looks practically new, and anything you can't see is typically covered under warranty, which still has 2+ years and tens of thousands of miles left.  And it is not unusual to save up to $10k over the "brand new" price of a nicely loaded mid sized SUV or car.

But it doesn't always work out that way, sometimes the savings is way less than the trouble of buying a car from an auction 3 states away.  And when looking for something beyond basic packages, the selection gets thin.  10 years ago we could buy a loaded half ton truck that had a sticker of $50k for as low as $30k.  Today a $50k sticker truck sells for $41k at the lot and sells wholesale with 10k miles for $38k.  Doesn't make much financial sense any more so my company mostly does high mileage leases on brand new trucks for the fleet.  Oh, and when you buy wholesale, it is cash and carry with no trade ins.

I bought a brand new truck from a dealer in December (2016 Colorado), despite the fact that I could have probably called my contacts and eventually found a nice one with super low miles for $4-6k savings.  As I drove off the lot, the truck was worth less than the loan on it, but that's what gap insurance is for.  Besides, it only takes about 8 months for that gap to close, and since I am not planning on selling it any time soon, in five years the amount I "lost" will be offset by lower mileage.  The convenience of getting that vehicle when I needed it, not having to dick around with trying to find the right color and options at an auction, and not having to go to the bank and get an overpriced loan to pay for it was well worth the extra cost (to me).  The cherry on top is that I didn't have to deal with a car that looked nearly new but smelled of PBJ farts every time I sat in a seat.  9 months later it still has that "new car smell", and it just topped 2700 miles.

To make this relevant to the Anti Chuff thread, it's been sideswiped twice (no dent, just scratched clear coat thankfully), there's a small ding (like a hail dent size) in the tailgate, and the bed already looks like a 5 year old truck bed.

Get me the pastor taco lunch special and I'll paint those seats with more than farts.  Always felt kinda bad for whatever sucker ended up with that truck... That stain NEVER came off the seat.  Like, to the point that I think I chemically burned the upholstery.

Those were some damn good tacos, though.

Strategic cell phone charging, a candle, and a decent cellular signal enabled us to watch Texas A&M blow a 34 point lead tonight.

battery in my car died after I got to work today. Weak crank leaving the house, nothing when I tried to restart it to repark.

Had to make a change to a SQL table. Went in through SQL management studio, made a back up, made the changes . SQL was ok with it, our software wasnt.  Reverted the change, racked my brain on what could have gone wrong, 2 hour tech support call later and I found out you have to change that particular SQL table in the software not in SQL.

Today is going to be a good day.

Didn't take tons of photos, wasn't much to see besides human misery in all directions, but here we go...

An ordinary 3 hour drive turned into 6 hours of this:

Hundreds of line repair trucks... hundreds....

Man camps...

Typical view:

Parents' street, borderline chaos of home owners, volunteers, and lookie loos:

Parents' marina... Very typical site.

Tool shed... my dad is as nuts as the rest of us about projects, so several died....

One of the donation centers...

Not a great pic, but the roof is ripped off all those condos on the right, and damage to those million dollar homes on the left...

My "---fudgesicle--- you, this is Texas, and we WILL grill meat and watch football no matter what" pictures....

Directly across the street from parent's house.  They had holes in their roof above every single room.

Friend brings his kids over.

The 11 year old promptly updates my WiiU, I catch it halfway through and unplug it.  Hacks intact but gives me a download error upon each boot.

Then knocked Spectrum out of commission.  Don't sweat it, kid, they made 200 and its 35 years old...

Messed up Firepower.  Parts on order.....

Star Wars Battlefront quit working on my PS4.  GameStop has replaced it....

My ceiling lightshow projector  goes dim, I burn the ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- out of my hand tonight cutting open the case with a soldering iron.  Not sure why I attempted that.  $15 has a new one en route,

Frankly, I'm impressed at his inept destruction.

Broncos brutalized the Cowboys and now I'm sitting quietly in the corner waiting for the weekend to end.

Was slot cutting some orders this afternoon when I slipped and my thumb hit the slot cutting bit...

Three stitches (they couldn't stitch up the rest, cut was too wide) and some debridement, got bandaged up and sent home.  Oh and an updated tetanus shot.  Yay me.

On the bright side, no nerve damage, so that's good.

Watch those power tools, folks!

if I pulled the guts and cut the frame then maybe. I didnt want to hack it up and it still not fit, so I went and got a cheapie TV for $140 just seemed like the better option.

I *almost* slotted  down the inside to slide the TV in from the top but again the allure of a $140 TV was too hard to resist.
