Sega Ringwide loader- Sega Racing Classic AKA Daytona playable
buttersoft:
So, to keep the conversation going... Has the public TP been updated to include OR2 LAN mode at this stage? Any other changes worth noting? I've been out of the loop for a bit.
Part of the reason for my being out of the loop is SR3. I really appreciate the help with the track swap, it's a great game, and adding content makes it a worthy competitor to OR2, in my book, for best game on my driving setups. As i get deeper in i'll try to post back about which swapped tracks will load, but don't give enough time for the player to finish :)

anybody still playing these games?
i waited until most were available now, and i can try them out.
i'm running them on surface studio (i7, with nvidia 3050)
but i'm finding most games run way too fast....
------
after burner climax - fun shooter
crazy ride - crazy taxi clone, but need subscription to try
daytona championship usa
daytona championship usa nse - already played both a long time ago
ford racing full blown - finally got to play this with, with working controls
galaga assault = need subscription
pac-man chomp mania = need subscription
pengo online - fun puzzle game, too short
raiden iii - cant get controls to work in this or rotated screen
raiden iv - works, great shooter
r-tuned ultimate street racing - too modern for me, i hate the unlimited boost, doesn't feel like sega
sega race tv - this is fun, and goofy
sega racing classic - nothing new here
sega rally 3 - been having tons of fun modding, new tracks, can switch cars, the best out the sega games, near perfect controls
haven't tried either one of these - might be surprised, but i don't like any modern sega racing games
sega showdown 8g
sega world drivers championship
virtua fighter 5 version b
virtua fighter 5 version c
virtua fighter 5 final showdown
virtua fighter 5 final showdown (APM3)
virtua fighter 5r
virtual fighter esports - all are excellent but run way too fast
virtua tennis 3
virtua tennis 4 - both games are great, but get super hard after the 2nd round

I can't speak for the non-racing stuff, but I've been dabbling in some of the "newer" Sega/Namco racers and...umm...well....I'm just not feeling any of 'em. :lol
R-Tuned is *OK*, but the graphics when stretched to full screen are kinda fugly. Sega World Drivers' is pretty cool and is probably the best outta the bunch. But Storm Racer G? Oh man...the real offender. That is one of THE ugliest pieces of ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- I have ever laid my eyes on, and the gameplay is pure trash.
Daytona 3 is a game I really REALLY wanted to like, but I can't get past the awful color palette. Those brown hues are an eyesore!
Really though, all these newer games that Sega farmed out to these Chinese devs run on a graphics engine that simply looks terrible. They all this low-res "vaseline-ish" look to them and I can't get AA to work properly either through TeknoParrot or Nvidia Control Panel.
I can safely say I'm fully and I mean *FULLY* content with sticking to the older Model 2/3/Naomi/Chihiro era stuff. They look better and they still play brilliantly.
When it comes to the "newer" stuff, Initial D and Wangan Midnight Maxi Tune are like the only exceptions! :cheers:

well, i've tried some more games..
crazy ride - as i mentioned it is crazy taxi with modern cars, might have been ok,
but you need to keep boosting throughout the game, so i don't like that mechanism.
--
it seems most modern games nowadays needs a boost feature
====
sega showdown - it is fun for the destruction derby and crossover tracks, don't like the music though,
and yes, it also has the boost going on.
=====
sega world drivers - super impressive, and beautiful - tons of detail on the cars, and tracks, the best version
of a touring car racing game, handles well, and has a lot of depth
MADE FOR ONLINE COMPETITION ONLY
The single player AI is non-existant, you can come in first, get all the skill turns and CLASS S, on the first try.
only the top 2 cars, even try to keep up.
there are NO difficulty settings or way to change it. i couldn't even figure out how to try manual shift, but i'm sure
it will be just as easy.
this game had to the potential to be the last of the great sega racers.
i might still try it out, just to see the rest of the tracks.
but overall, its just too bad, that you need other people to play it to make it worthy.
====================
nothing wrong with the update to daytona 3, they added the 3 original tracks back in, and the city never did have browns in it,
and neither did the oval.
=========
lastly, i'm not into the series racing games, so i won't be trying those out, too much story and background stuff.
i will say my top tiers for sega racers goes like this
======
top tier1
---------
virtua racing/formula
daytona
sega rally
indy 500
tier2
-------------
sega rally 2
crazy taxi
sega rally revo - once you get used to the handling
tier3
-----
sega rally 3
hang on
super hang on
i've never like the outrun games, so those are out.
never liked daytona 2 or anything like it, because the tracks might be ok, but there's too many distracting and conflicting graphical elements
around and on the tracks.
never liked scud race, le mans, touring car either - just don't fit in with sega racing design
everything else is too gimicky, or just poor design.
it might not be a popular opinion - but i only saw the original daytona as the last game in the arcades,
and most places never bothered to get any of the sequels as racing games were out, and fighting games were in.
moving to model 3, and beyond didn't add anything to gameplay, and in fact, a lot of those games
had dumbed down AI.
as shown all the recent games look great, but play terribly.
i think i'll stick with model 2 pretty much.
sega rally 3/revo is actually challenging, but thats about it.

Bro I respect your opinion but you are sleeping *HEAVY* on Scud Race and Initial D Zero. Both fantastic games.
And not a Sega game, but still...if you haven't played WMMT6 you're missing out big time.
