Please help with exidy crash power supply issue |

Hello, I'm new here and have just got my first arcade game to restore. It is a 1979 Exidy Crash machine. I have read everything I could find about it ( which is not a lot) however I cannot seem to find any details on how to replace the power supply with a more modern and more importantly, working power supply. The current power supply is an Adtech power model APS 5-6. Also I have checked all 3 fuses that I could find and have tried turning up the voltage on the power supply. Any help on how to convert it without frying the control board would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

There is not that much info on the power supply itself, but the full Exidy Crash manual will give you all the info you need. The adtech APS 5-6 is a very simply 5V 6A power supply so any good quality one will work. However, you might just want to rebuild the existing one as it's very doable if you have some soldering skills. Did you measure the voltage it's outputting now? |

Super easy to replace the old linear with a regulated switcher. I have pics in my thread here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=146323.0 good day. |

Contact Ian Kellogg, he's worked on the Crash PCB for my local Arcade museum. I'm sure he's using a modern power supply adaptor of some sort to test the boards. https://iankellogg.com/contact/ DeL |

Thanks for the advice everyone. I had read chopperdogs post on his crash restoration and it was very helpful. I guess what I'm needing to know is are all the wires connected to the power supply running 5v? Is there any way I could wire that incorrectly on a new supply box and potentially fry the circuit board ? Sorry to sound ignorant, I usually build hot rods and Harleys not arcade games. And yes I checked the voltage coming out of the existing one it reads 0.013 with the adjustment turned all the way up so I would tend to believe it's toast. |
