Could we have more discrete games in MAME?
« on: May 05, 2017, 03:13:23 pm »
Dumb question: Since Pong is now available in MAME, could other discrete games from the bronze age be added? Would it matter whether or not DICE has tried to make them available?

It's certainly possible, but keep in mind that pong is literally the simplest discrete game.  Other games are far more complex, which means they are more difficult to accurately simulate, and take more resources to run.  Also, unlike a regular game a board just can't be dumped, the pcb has to be examined, converted to a schematic, and then simulated.

Saw "migrate more games from DICE" on the todo list on one of the mamedev developer WIP blogs.  One can hope.
