Kaboom arcade cabinet
« on: May 05, 2017, 01:04:37 pm »
After seeing pictures of the Kaboom in a Centipede cabaret at the Florida arcade event, decided to make an iteration of it myself.
Had a few Atari 2600's with busted up switches, and some paddles in various states of disarray so it was easy to come up with guts.
The local flea shop sells tiny color tv's for 10-20 bucks apiece.

Love the colors on the cab and the simple CP.

The color is called "Dynamo" by Sherwin-Williams.
I had them reduce it by 90% to lighten it up a bit more like the box art.

Great little arcade! How long did it take to line up the side art

Marquee seems a bit plain though. Seems like you've got some cool colours to work with to make something a bit more 'explosive'

There is a vinyl graphics shop down the road that does wraps for cars and stock cars.
They fit in these obscure little projects when they have room on the printer.
I had to wait a month or two for the graphics.
Just had them pull from the google images.
Yah, the marquee does need spiced up doesn't it.

All of that art was just $20, which I appreciated.

Naw, the marquee is perfect. He's going for a "cart side label" aesthetic. I get itm

I love it! Good call on going with Sherwin Williams.

Hi 1500points

I totally get the 2600 vibe and can see why the marquee works - but if it was mine (and I wish it was!) - I'd have probably gone for something to bring the sideart to the front like this...

That's just messing in photoshop so please feel free to ignore or tell me to jump

Your cab  is really tempting me to get into spinner games... I'm building a cocktail cab right now, thinking about instead of making the second cp into a player 2 I should install a spinner and trackball...

The only cab my wife likes is an arkanoid kit in a littlw cabaret cab I made.

Picked up a turbo spinner from chopper and made a tempest image for rpi3.  Think I will attempt a tempest-major havoc build if pi works with the spinner....

Love it. Kaboom was one of my favorites on the 2600.  The marquee is perfect for capturing the Activision cart vibe.  Instant nostalgia seeing your cab, and the game is so so fun after all these years. Well done.
