Here a kid needs to be neglected really badly, for years, and everybody has to know it, and it has to be reported a dozen times, before anyone from the state will even consider coming around. |

And it will go onto a piece of paper in a pile on someone's desk two inches thick of similar pieces of paper with similar reports. A 6 month backlog of reports on the desk of a person paid barely above poverty level to investigate. |

Trust me, I know from experience just how easy it is to get child services to come knocking on the door escorted by a cop or two. Around here, there is a law that not only protects whoever called it in, but the cops HAVE to show up to investigate, even if they are 100% sure it is just harassment. And there is no limit to it, as long as someone calls every day to anonymously report you, a cop has to show up to investigate that day. I lived it, and no, I never abused or neglected my kids, I was just unfortunate enough to marry into a crazy family who put criminals above the kids. |
