Partially working JVL vortex
« on: April 23, 2017, 06:59:53 pm »
Bought what I thought was a working vortex from a wholesaler. He probably tested it for 5 min and it worked. I got it to play once now it wants to reload the system.  It starts to do it but reboots at 37% every time. Can I do a clean install off cd rom?  I think it has itouch 8 on it. I've got over 300.00 in it now. 😥

You can hook up an external CD and reinstall the software.

Great thanks. So I guess I have to take the thing apart to get to the cf card?   I wasn't apparent to me so I guess it's in that computer box?  Any breakdown instructions?

If its the same as the Retro, its on the bottom side of the jp30 motherboard. You need to take the entire "computer box" out and then remove the jp30 motherboard out of the "computer box" to get to the CF card. Its a real pita. Good luck.

Guys sent me a new pc to put in. Had to pry it out of there. Anyone know a better way to get it out?  Maybe removing the coin slot mechanism may help but didn't figure how to get it out.

Working better but fans will, need to get replaced. Works for a while. Hours but then starts to reboot lockup. Once off for a little it's fine. Fans whine loudly after 45 min to,an hour.

Appreciate and help or advice.

Would help if i could, but ive only worked on Retro and Encore/Echo. Again if its anything like Retro, remove coin mech and the bracket. Then remove coin return housing. With Retro there is a hidden screw in the plastic housing. Then remove screw that holds monitor in and then lift lever so monitor swings out. You will have a much easier time if they are built the same way.

I need to rebuild the PC.  Fans make noise then it fails.  Anyone know the fans that are in the little pc so I can order some before I rip it all apart?

A friend just had an Echo and it had TWO bad fans: one on the computer board and one in the cabinet. He ended up having to buy the fans from JVL's parts department because they were special fans.

the fans are kinda wired size. not totally impossible to find, but not something you can just walk into a parts store and pick up. I ordered from mao's poundland in the land of many cheap item on ebay.

I have hacked and modded the cases to use regular thicker/larger fans. PITA but cools much better.
