Have been away from the emulation scene for a while due to fun life choices that monopolized my life for the last almost two years.

Just found out there was an emulator that does a pretty good job at a Wii U out there.  Was shocked about that one.

Any strides made in pinball emulation?  Either new emulators or major improvements?

I'm assuming if you were looking into this two years ago you know about Visual Pinball.  VP9 would have been the standard then. The new improved version, Visual Pinball X, is the improved version and what most new development is done for.  You will need a decently fast computer/graphics card to handle it. If not, Visual Pinball 9 is still great and has hundreds of tables for it.

  • If you don't try, you have no chance at innovation
Pinball X or Hyper pin for your front end

Visual Pinball 10
Future Pinball BAM
Pinball Arcade
Pinball FX2

Are the current emulators now.
