  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Been working on getting this control panel designed and off to printing but I feel there are things that could be fixed. It is not all complete but gives you an idea where I am going with it. All buttons and controls on left are blue and on right are red. Hoping to see if I am headed in the right direction or if I need to change somethings. Any help would be great.

Thanks

Seems like a good start, only advice I can offer is Do not install joysticks 3 & 4 at an angle.

Thanks Drnick, the thing I was thinking if that player 3 or 4 are standing at the same angle isn't better for the joystick to be at the same angle also?

Thanks

You would think,  but no.  Don't overthink it - just don't angle them. EOD.

Mike I respect your advice and I thought about it and with all the room and I had already order all the buttons I add them. Thanks for your input.

Just curious.  I'm sure there is a reason for your layout based on what you are doing with it.
But in your case specifically...  why 8 buttons for P1 / P2 vs. 6 buttons?

For some of the console games that will be on the unit.

  • If you take shortcuts, you get cut short.

if you ever plan on playing something like World Class Bowling or Golden Tee Fore... DO NOT PUT BUTTONS IN FRONT OF THE  :censored: TRACKBALL!!!!   You will hit them.  I put my admin buttons at the top of the panel far from the trackball.  I hit them regularly.  Especially the exit button.  I now need to re-do my panel and artwork to keep that from happening.

Too many admin buttons.

Yeah, I agree.   The vol up/down can be done with shift keys.  Encoders like the Ipac allow you to have key combinations that map to operations.. so holding one button while pressing another could be volume up, down, etc.  I dont' think 4 admin buttons is too much though, just move them from the middle..  I also generally like the coin and start to be directly above the controls, but that's just personal preference.
