Speed issue with sound pitching
« on: March 14, 2017, 10:00:25 pm »
Hello, I've recently switched to Groovymane 183 on a low lag LCD 1080p monitor.

I'm having an issue with every game I try where speed stays locked at 98%, sometimes jumps to 101% or 97% and when this occurs the sound pitches either higher or lower. This does not happen with other builds such as arcade64, vanilla mame, etc.

On the GM.ini the only changes I have are

Monitor_Type LCD
Video D3D
Frame_Delay 1

 What's causing this?

hi, does this problem occur if you load a game using groovymame which is a 60hz game?

Hi, not sure but the games I've tried that do this with are:

Alien Sector
Alien Syndrome
Aliens
Altered Beast
Galaga '88

I think they are 60hz games.

what operating system are you using, windows 7?

ps. i'm guessing you did a quick test with setting frame_delay to 0 just to see if there was any difference?

Yes I'm on win 7. It does it on Win 8.1 too on my laptop.

Yes I tried it with no frame delay. Makes no difference.

also, do you know how to generate a log, when you run a game
if you could do that (any game is fine), and attach the log here with your post, that would be really helpful:
______________________________________________________________

Reporting problems:-
   How to create a log:

If you're experiencing any problem or odd behaviour regarding GroovyMAME, please create a log and post it when reporting the problem. This will provide us with critical information beforehand and will save us from asking you to post a log. Bug reports without a proper log will be ignored.

Steps to create a log:

- Run GroovyMAME like this:
Code: [Select]
c:\mame_folder>groovymame.exe romname -v >romname.txt- Upload romname.txt as an attachment to your post. Please don't paste it inside the edit box as it makes things unreadable.

No problem, cab is off for the night. I'll get you a log tomorrow.

No I never followed a guide. I asked a few months ago if I could utilize groovymame to lower input lag even though I'm not using a CRT, Calamity responded sure, just set the monitor to LCD and use d3d9ex builds.
I read the user Haynor reporting the same exact problem I'm having at the beginning of the Groovymame thread. Calamity stated it had something to do with timing code used in C++ and that he/she sorta fixed it with newer builds but my problem almost sounds like something set wrong  in the ini.

Regardless I'll generate a lot tomorrow for you guys to look at. Thanks for the help so far :)

Hello again. I don't know what happened, but I created a new mame.ini before attempting a log and the issue has seemed to go away. Strange but it's fixed.

Something might of been off in the ini.
