What have ROMs got to do with whether the OS is 32 or 64 bit, anyway?

But yeah, more info is needed.

on your XP computer unzip a fresh MAME.zip file.
copy all your roms to the newly created MAME folder.

pretty sure i had done this but ill freshly port them all again and see what happens

the poster hasn't even said what they mean by "don't work"

could just be the XP machine has far worse hardware that isn't fully compatible with MAME, or buggy drivers...  there were a LOT of problems on XP with buggy Nvidia drivers causing MAME to blue-screen and restart the PC for example, likewise a lot of Intel chipset drivers are buggy to the point of making MAME unusable (which is one reason more modern versions of MAME just drop support for such hardware completely)

this is the kind of situation where really, unless better info is supplied everybody is wasting their time trying to give support, there's nowhere to start.

I have a feeling most of this is whats happening,i feel like my video card is faulty and just shuts down or restarts my computer constantly.

well if it's an NVIDIA card on XP then look at this thread
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=111834.0

NVIDIA never fixed that bug, so yeah, you're stuck with the old drivers that are suggested.

Well upgrading to Win7 is a start no matter what ;)

XP is almost old enough to have a driver's license.

well yeah, running ancient hardware and software is always an issue, but this scene in general seems obsessed with the idea that 'junk' machines are perfect emulation machines due to the games being old themselves, when really they have no understanding of what it takes to emulate something properly.

as a result, support questions like this are kinda common, although it has been a while since the XP / NVIDIA one came up.

find the oldest piece of ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- available and expecting everything to come up roses.

Or use a raspberry pi. Hah hah. Kidding. Won't run your roms that new.

Before you go that drastic... you could try running MAME from the command line.... see if you still have problems. Could it just be your front end?

Or if it's the video card... find a different video card. Old ones are super cheap. You could maybe get
One that's pennies on the dollar for an old card.

I've had problems with front ends on XP.

I'd try to use an older MAME version. I run .161 on my 6-7 years old XP computer. I had to try several MAME versions before I found the one that works.

well if it's NVIDIA / XP and you're seeing the reboot issue, do try the drivers suggested in the other thread, because it WILL fix that.

just don't have expectations that are too high if you're running on weak hardware tho, even if some stuff appears to run well you quite often find that later stages are more demanding etc. too.

It depends a LOT on what you want to play.

If you want to play Pac-Man, Galaga, Gyruss - Mame 0.37 and XP and something newer than a Pentium is fine.

If you want to play Star Wars Trilogy, Cruisin' USA, San Francisco Rush 2049 - not so much ...
