4:3 dell - itch to upgrade...difference??
« on: March 10, 2017, 11:57:05 pm »
Hey guys

I've been running a dell 4:3 LCD in my cab from the jump running hlsl ... looks good.
But I'm wondering what I'm missing with the new 19" arcade monitors.
I don't want to go full crt as I run newer systems too.

But I'm looking for honest feedback on the newer 19" LCD/led 4:3 monitors and if I'd see a big difference?  Sometimes I feel the dell is kind of dull.

Are you saying that you can't display a newer system on a crt? There are crts that display 720p and 1080i you know... oh, and they can truely display different resolutions unlike an LCD that is stuck to its native res and has to scale everything else.

What I'm saying is I don't want to run say a arcadevga card as I run newer type systems on my cab.
Newer systems demand a stronger video card which arcadevga is not.  I know this because I have a brand new arcadevga and had a lot
Of troubles running newer systems.

I really interested in the new Vision pro 19" 4:3 monitors and there performance?

The current version of arcade vga is an hd5450. Calamity drivers can support greater cards than that, and his recent update adds support for a lot more cards. You might find that one works for you.

The manual for the vision pro is here: https://na.suzohapp.com/images/pdf/49-2604-30L_VisionProManual.pdf

It seems to support analog video. That's a plus for jamma boards. Adds cost for mame because it's unnecessary. Plus it's a tft display, which have bad viewing angles and I would never use it for arcade. Fine for computing. Awful when others want to watch you and can't see shlt. If your adamant on an LCD, I'd be more concerned with cost and a good viewing angle.

Stick with what you have. The Vision Pros are for convenience, not looks.

You're overthinking it. Those arcade LCDs are made to swap out dying CRTs, not to improve the look of 30+ year old games. By the time you buy the LCD and the mounting frame (because I've only seen them sold as separate items) you've spent way too much. I'd buy a 21" Dell 4:3 for $50 all day before I'd drop any money on a Vision Pro.

That's what I was hoping to hear.
Didn't know if the vision pro was designed for better scale/brightness etc to help make the look better.

My shaders are for crt' so was just wondering if those monitors are more "sharp" than a standard old dell pc monitor

Tft is more sharp than LCD, but they have worse viewing angles. What you already have is probably fine.
