atari 7800 light gun....
« on: March 04, 2017, 03:03:20 pm »
Does anyone have the light gun for the 7800 and if so how does it perform?  Just picked up a cart of crossbow for the 7800 and was blown away by how good it looks.. heck the 2600 port is not bad.  Just wanted to check before I drop 40 bucks on one...

Not likely to work on modern screens.

I mean if you are desperate for lightgun games go for it, but imho there are guns you can get for other systems that have larger and better libraries.  A lightgun is a lightgun.  With the notable exception of the nes zapper and super scope, they all perform about the same.

So are you in your 50's then?  Gaming didn't truly start until the NES.  If you are only playing consoles older than it then you are doing yourself a grave disservice.

late 40's .. but I was never a huge fan of the nes.  After moving from the 2600 to the apple 2 I really didnt even look at console stuff.  Seeing a few titles from the apple 2 on the 7800 is really was got my looking at the system in the first place and after picking up one on one for it I am sure happy I did.  The bonus is all the great arcade ports for the 7800.

It's $40. If you don't like it, dump it for $35.

Ide agree with Howard tbh.
The 2600 etc were great, But dont hold a torch to the "newer" consoles.

SNES and NES had some great light gun titles.

But tbh, If you want some of the best light gun games look no further than the PSX.
The light gun library for the PSX is 2nd to none.

PSX has a great selection.  The wii and ps3 as well.  I didn't mean the nes specifically I meant.... well.... any console new enough to where you can make out the details of a character and it isn't a weird blocky mess like the 2600.  The 7800 only has about 5 lightgun games and while some are kind of fun, they don't hold up very well.

After finding a light gun on ebay for 25 bucks I must say its pretty neat and much better than trying to play crossbow with a stick.. You cant sight down the gun but after a few shots it spot on.  After a few day with crossbow I pulled the trigger on alien brigade

its a blast as well and having a auto firing weapon sure is nice!  Looking forward to checking out some of the other titles.
