Mini NEO GEO Scratch Build (Updated 4/11/19)
« on: February 28, 2017, 01:38:59 am »
I wanted a mini NEO GEO but I wanted 2 adults to be able to play comfortably so this is what I came up with.  It's approximately 4'x2'x'2. It's the height of a NEO GEO mini and the width of a regular upright.

Sides drawn out.

Cutting in progress.

One side cut.

Flushing the other side with the router. (Also routed the T-molding slot)

Starting to come together.

Monitor mounted.

Coin door fitted.

Speaker slots routed.

Control panel and bezel test fitted.

Drilling control panel holes.

Holes drilled. This is a MAME cabinet so I added more buttons for fighting games.

Testing coin counter.

Real NEO GEO marquee trimmed down to size.

Finished control panel.

Black paint.

Red paint.

Side art.

Volume, Service, Power, Coin Counter

Innards.

Control panel opened.

Finished product.

Super tidy work!  :applaud:

Did you ever consider getting a larger screen and placing it in the cab vertically thus keeping the width of the cab in line with a real Neo Geo cab?

That's a great idea but I was using parts that I already had on hand.  ;D

He used standard arcade control panel clamps. You can see them in one of the pictures.

I modified the coin mechs to take any coin.  I'm not about to leave a bucket of quarters laying about.  :laugh2:

Great job! Now ditch the LCD and insert consumer CRT on a shelf.

Very nice! What bracket is that on the VESA mount? Looks interesting.
